Whitehall offers newer homes on the edge of Oklahoma City
Whitehall is a classic example of a suburb, as defined by the professor and witty aphorist Mason Cooley, who defined suburbs as “an attempt to get out of reach of the city without having the city be out of reach.” On the banks of Lake Hefner’s northern shore, and within a mile of Bluff Creek Park, Whitehall is set on the outskirts of northwest Oklahoma City. But it’s far from the middle of nowhere. “They started building here in the early 2000s, when the city was really expanding out this way, and there are homes that are nearly brand new,” says Realtor Terra Richardson with Bold Real Estate. “Their age is part of the draw, but a lot of people are moving here for the location. It’s a good neighborhood for anyone who wants to be close to nature, without being far out in the county.” In such close proximity to both natural and urban amenities, Whitehall certainly strikes a good balance between embracing the city and keeping it at a distance.

Traditional and transitional homes priced above metro median
You’ll find mainly Traditional and modern transitional-style homes lining the quiet cul-de-sacs here. “Prices in Whitehall increase as age decreases, which sounds intuitive, but that’s the opposite of what you’ll see happening in the urban core neighborhoods near downtown,” says Richardson. Most homes range between $380,000 and $555,000, slightly over the median for the metro. For a three-bedroom, three-bathroom home built in 2023, featuring a copper-roofed bay window, an airy open-concept floorplan and a covered backyard patio, you can expect to pay about $400,000. Similar, but larger five-bedroom, four-bathroom homes built in 2023 tend to sell for closer to the $550,000 mark. “It’s a small neighborhood, so there aren’t too many listings usually active at once,” observes Richardson, adding: “Homes that have been put on the market recently have been going under contract really quickly.”

Lake Hefner and Bluff Creek Park offer trails and water access
Less than a mile from both Lake Hefner and Bluff Creek Park, residents are spoiled for choice with a plethora of ways to enjoy the great outdoors. “You can sail, hang out on the beach, fish, bike along the trails, there’s even a golf course if you like to golf,” lists Realtor Kristina Moosavi with Re/Max Lifestyle. From going out on the lake itself to the nearly 10 miles of surrounding paved trails dotted with parks, she says “the options are basically endless.” The sprawling Bluff Creek Park, which encompasses almost 4 miles of Lake Hefner’s northern shoreline, offers a different natural aesthetic. Trade the waterfront for dense forest and naturally landscaped grassland lined with rustic split rail fences. Residents of all ages love the packed park’s exercise equipment, picnic pavilions, grills and classic playground.
