A perfect location
Northwest of downtown Oklahoma City, with easy access to the Northwest Expressway and Interstates 44 and 235, Wileman’s Belle Isle neighborhood is ideally located. “You’re close to the high-end suburb of Nichols Hills, without the high taxes and the high water bills,” says Tami Murphy, a broker associate with McGraw Realtors with over 10 years of experience. “The main thing you’re close to is shopping with Penn Square Mall and the shops and restaurants along Classen Curve.”

A big shopping mall is your neighbor, and another is moving in
Immediately east of Wileman’s Belle Isle are 150 stores that make up Penn Square Mall. Plus, there are restaurants and more shopping opportunities around the two-story mall. Eddie Bauer, J. Crew and an Apple Store can be found in the mall. Belle Isle Station is a small strip shopping center around Penn Square with a Walmart and an REI camping supply store. In addition, Oak is scheduled to open in the fall of 2024. This is a 20-acre mixed-use development located at the Northwest Expressway and Pennsylvania Avenue. It’s designed to be a walkable area with over 2 miles of sidewalks connecting retailers and restaurants with rooftop dining. Office space, luxury apartments, a boutique hotel and a central green space will be featured.

Mid-century homes, including some with a unique story
In addition to the brick ranch-style homes from the 1950s, a developer built some homes in small pockets around the neighborhood called Storybook Chalets. These homes feature a round living room with panoramic windows and a rounded brick fireplace. It was inspired by the builder’s travels around Europe and Disneyland in California. Most homes feature three to four bedrooms and a two-car garage, and some have a circular driveway. “That’s very common in Oklahoma – it keeps cars off the street, and you don’t have to back out,” Murphy says. “Plus, if you have a party, you can fit up to 10 cars on that semicircle.” The price range is between $200,000 and $500,000, the average price per square foot is $180, and the living space is usually between 1,500 and 3,000 square feet.
Contemporary-inspired homes are scattered throughout the neighborhood.

Golf course views
Some homes in the northern section of Wileman’s Belle Isle have views of some of the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. It began operating in 1911 and is the oldest private golf course and country club in Oklahoma City. The club offers its members a variety of activities, including a swimming pool, tennis courts and a challenging 18 holes of golf with beautiful scenery. Belle Isle Park used to be known as Ross Park, named after Ross Avenue, one of the park’s borders. An ice storm destroyed many of the trees in the park in 2013. When local organizations came together to revitalize it, it was renamed Belle Isle Park. Today, there is a playground, basketball and tennis courts and a walking trail.
