Windsor Hills
Afternoon strolls past ranch-style homes and split-levels
The ranch-style homes in Windsor Hills are sometimes decorated with small gardens and native shrubs shaded by old-growth trees. The care put into tidy lawns and yard décor is evident, especially as residents stroll along N Meridian Court. Split-levels boast verandas where many locals have opted to place comfortable outdoor seating and potted plants. Most homes range in price from $200,000 to $450,000, but the average rate tends to hover around $220,000. And though residents may not rely on sidewalks, many opt to stroll along the street in the afternoons.
OKC’s only theater showing Spanish-dubbed films
The Windsor Hills shopping center offers residents Crest Foods, retail outlets, chain restaurants and a recently renovated movie theater, Icon Cinema. “We’re the only movie theater in Oklahoma City showing Spanish dubbed movies,” says Matthew Matelski, local resident and manager of the theater. “It’s part of our efforts to really immerse into the community.” The OFK Bazaar Flea Market is just around the corner, a small but mighty local storefront with second-hand novelties. Less than 4 miles west, folks can find a Walmart Neighborhood Market. But Feria Latina Supermarket is a restaurant, market and shopping plaza all in one, ideal for Windsor Hills’ global community. That said, there’s a wide variety of internationally-inspired dining options, from Queen of Sheba’s Ethiopian fare to the Taqueria La Fondita food truck. “There are actually food trucks all down 23rd street with a constant line of people,” Matelski continues. “But La Fondita is my go-to spot.”
Fourth Fridays in the West Village District
Six Flags Hurricane Harbor OKC is less than 4 miles from Windsor Hills, open seasonally and offering an array of rides, events and shops. Also nearby are the OKC Fairgrounds, hosting the annual Oklahoma State Fair. Residents can also partake in programs, classes and camps at Will Rogers Gardens, or head to the West Village District every fourth Friday to peruse plant shops, boutiques, night markets and block parties. Historic Film Row is also burrowed in the heart of the district, which housed major motion picture companies like Universal and Warner Brothers throughout the 20th century.
