Nearly 12 miles from downtown, Wingspread residents live about as far south as possible without giving up their Oklahoma City ZIP code. But with Interstates 44 and 240 close by, residents don’t need to sprout wings to get where they’re going from here. Glen Cosper, a top Realtor with Keller Williams Green Meadow, says: “OKC’s walkability is notoriously low in these neighborhoods outside the urban core, but Wingspread is one of the more convenient areas.” He adds that even if residents do need wings to speed them in their travels, they can find them nearby at the Will Rogers World Airport. “The airport is about 5 miles down the road, and that combined with I-44 and 240 right there makes it easy to go anywhere you want, whether that’s out of the neighborhood or out of state,” he notes.

But there’s plenty to keep Wingspread residents from flying far from home. Cosper, a long-term southern OKC resident himself, says that the area has grown immensely over the last 20 years. “There’s lots of parks, lots of restaurants and lots of retail around now. Some of which has sprung up because of the airport being so close, but a lot of which has sprung up because the folks around here really love and are invested in their home,” he says. Cosper adds that the single biggest draw to the Wingspread neighborhood in particular, though, is its schools. “It’s an established neighborhood, in a great school district, and the Oklahoma City Community College is right here, too. You can’t get much more charming or family-friendly than that around here,” he gushes.

Grade school students in Wingspread are served by schools in the highly sought-after Moore Public Schools system. Many go to Earlywine Elementary between preschool and sixth grade, continue on to Moore West Junior High for seventh and eighth grades and finish grades nine through 12 at Westmoore High School. The three schools are all within 5 miles of most homes. They’re also highly rated by Niche. Earlywine and Westmoore earned A grades in 2023, while Moore West earned a B.

Oklahoma City Community College sprawls over 160 acres of the neighborhood’s northern half, between May Avenue and I-44 less than a mile from most homes. Community college students can choose from a wide variety of associate degrees, certificates of mastery or technology and occupational programs, ranging in subjects from art and automotive technology to Spanish and surgical technology. Cosper notes: “It’s not just the people who go there for classes that benefit from O.C.C.C. being so close. They have a wonderful arts and theater program that puts on visiting Broadway shows, interviews with famous film directors, things along those lines that the whole community enjoys.” He adds: “A lot of young families like Moore schools, they’re well-known as some of the best in the area. Plus, parents like that in Wingspread, you’re close to the grade schools and to O.C.C.C. If their kids end up going to O.C.C.C., it puts off being an empty nester just a few extra years.”

You’ll find mainly Traditional, Dallas-style brick homes here, with all the hallmarks of a typical Oklahoman suburb on show, from attached, front-facing garages to tall, wooden privacy fences around spacious backyards. They range in price between $175,000 and $250,000. For a four-bedroom, two-bathroom red brick home built in 1993, featuring an attached two-car garage, matching brick pillar-style mailbox standing sentry at the end of the driveway, and natural wood crown molding and custom built-in shelving throughout the interior, you can expect to pay around the $250,000 mark. Though that’s on the upper end of the spectrum for home prices in Wingspread, it’s under the median for the city, which hovers around $315,000.

For their groceries, residents can stay close to home by visiting Crest Foods or World Fresh International Market. Both shops are within 2 miles of most homes, off 104th Street. To enjoy the great outdoors, and a plethora of recreational opportunities, residents can head to Earlywine Park. The huge park, home to your local Y.M.C.A., aquatic and tennis centers, practice ball fields and a classic, colorful playground, is just 2 miles south of Wingspread, off May Avenue.

From its stellar schools and competitively priced homes to its convenient location, it’s easy to see why residents love coming home to roost here in Wingspread.
