Something for everyone

Okolona, about 12 miles south of Louisville, Kentucky, offers easy access to major roadways, affordable homes and inviting residents. According to Monica Dunlap, broker for Totally About Houses and a Louisville native with over a decade of experience in the area, “With approximately 20,000 residents, Okolona is big enough to offer everything you’d want while being small enough to feel like home.” Locals have access to the Jefferson Mall’s over 100 stores and surrounding amenities, including well-known chain restaurants and everyday essentials. Various parks and recreational facilities offer spaces for neighbors to come together. “Okolona is a welcoming community that works well for almost anyone,” Dunlap says. “Living or visiting Okolona is sure to leave a good impression.”

12 miles to Louisville

For Okolona residents, access to Downtown Louisville, about 12 miles north, and other surrounding areas is a quick trip on U.S. interstates 65 or 265. “Okolona is just minutes away from everything,” Dunlap says. To get around using public transport, there are bus stops along Preston Highway. When it’s time to fly, the Louisville International Airport is about 7 miles north. And in case of emergency, Norton Hospital is about 10 miles north.

Established community

Homes in Okolona were typically built between 1950 and 1970 and sit in established neighborhoods. Houses are modest, ranch-style or Cape Cods, and sit on lots large enough to toss a ball around or build a deck in the backyard. Many ranch-style homes include basements. Prices typically range from $150,000 to $300,000, depending on property size and condition. “These established neighborhoods are warm and inviting for residents,” Dunlap says. “The reasonable price and ranch-style layout are often desired by homebuyers.”
