Golf courses, walkability and well-kept homes

Forest Creek is suburban bliss with a country club twist. Home to two renowned public golf clubs, this Old Round Rock community provides all the comforts of quiet residential coves and the amenities of a club without expensive memberships or exclusivity. Houses and lawns are well-cared for, as the community takes extra pride in their appearance. “You’ve got a lot of larger homes here,” says Chris Tinnell, native Texan and Broker Associate for Compass Commercial, “But, they’re good quality.” Some subdivisions have amenities like private parks and pools. Forest Creek residents also benefit from having the extended Brushy Creek Regional Trail running on the north side of the community right along the creek.

Sprawling lots with a range of prices

Communities like Sonoma feature homes with cross-gabled roofs and garages. In the Oak Bluff Estates community, brick homes sit on sprawling lots peppered with towering oaks. Although some have been renovated, these homes are usually at least a few decades old, so they do come with more of a maintenance responsibility that doesn’t necessarily lower the cost. “Having a good school system and the golf courses nearby,” Tinnell says. “That always pushes prices up.” Most of the area’s three-bedroom homes go for around $400,000, but this price increases with larger lots or second-story options. A four or more-bedroom home will cost at least $650,000, but more coveted communities like Oak Bluff Estates can carry a heftier price tag, slipping into the $900,000 range. Occasionally, a million-dollar estate comes on the market.

Suburban bliss with a golf club twist

Forest Creek Golf Club is nationally recognized as one of the best Hill Country courses north of Austin. Book a weekend tee time or sign up for an annual pass and take advantage of the club’s Player Development Program. At The Golf Club at Star Ranch, golfers can hit the 18-hole course and then relax with a drink in the hilltop clubhouse — no membership required.

Some of the highest rated schools in Round Rock

There are a few different elementary schools in the neighborhood including Forest Creek Elementary. The Lake Forest community is home to Blackland Prairie Elementary, making it easy for kids to safely walk to and from the building with their neighbors. Other local school options include Ridgeview Middle, where students can join the active soccer team or learn multiple styles of dance and perform for their community. For high school, some students attend Hendrickson High in Pflugerville. All four schools score an A rating overall on Niche.

Neighborhood parks in bloom

Some neighborhood parks are exclusive to residents of a particular subdivision, like Greenridge Park. However, Bradford Park is open to everyone and includes a playground — accompanied by a small pond with a narrow wooden bridge, walking trails and picnic space. High Country Park is another local favorite for activities like playing fetch with the dog. The park is better known to some as Flower Hill Park, however, both because of its location on Flower Hill Drive and because spring brings a carpet of purple and white flowers to the lawn.

Shopping and Dining

At the Shops at Forest Commons, Thai Spoon Restaurant offers a fragrant curry or a filling sandwich can be found at High Country Market Bistro and GastroPub across the street. For a home-cooked meal, H-E-B has groceries and other essentials. Off of Route 79, there are major chains such as Walmart and McDonalds less than 3 miles away.

Getting around Round Rock

With access to major Routes 130, 45 and 79, commuting around Round Rock or Austin is easy. Not only do sidewalks provide walkability in the neighborhood, but they also give residents a chance to stop and chat under the shade of mature trees.
