Oak Hills offers country club living in Southwest Omaha

In Southwest Omaha, Oak Hills is a suburban neighborhood centered around the Oak Hills Country Club, where many locals are members and frequently gather for golf and community events. The neighborhood features a mix of subdivisions and gated communities surrounding the country club’s golf course. Locals find it to be a convenient place to live, as it’s within walking distance of the local elementary school and within a few miles of commercial hubs.

Homes range from condos to upscale estates

The neighborhood features winding residential streets with sidewalks and single-family homes on lots that average nearly a quarter of an acre. Some houses in and outside of the neighborhood’s gated communities face the golf course. “We have a lot of members who live on the course,” says Olivia Lynes, director of membership and marketing at the Oak Hills Country Club. “They love being able to walk over to the club and have dinner and drinks on the patio.” Ranch-style and split-level homes built between the 1960s and the 1970s range from $220,000 to $300,000. Larger New Traditional and Colonial Revival homes with upscale interiors sell for around $420,000 to $830,000. Two- to three-bedroom condos, including some with multi-car garages, range from $125,000 to $370,000.

Recreation and events at Oak Hills Country Club

Oak Hills Country Club offers several amenities for members, including a private 18-hole golf course. “It’s a gorgeous course, and a lot of it is shaded, so we have a lot of walkers,” Lynes says. The country club also has an indoor golf simulator, which Lynes says is a popular activity during winter. Members have access to a private outdoor pool, as well as tennis and pickleball courts and a clubhouse featuring a golf shop and a restaurant with a bar and patio seating. “We are more of a relaxed country club,” Lynes says. “People hear ‘country club’ and think it’s super fancy. We are definitely family-friendly vibes and just having a good time.” The country club hosts several events and activities throughout the year, including golf tournaments and a dine-in movie night during the summer, along with Bingo nights and the annual Jingle Ball in the winter.
Locals also have access to public recreational spaces, including the paved West Papio Trail, which runs for miles along the Papillion Creek. Sandoz Park is also within walking distance of many homes. It’s part of Sandoz Elementary School’s facilities and features ball fields, tennis courts and a playground.

Students can earn college credits at Millard South High School

Students may attend Sandoz Elementary School, which receives a B-plus grade from Niche. They’ll go on to B-graded Millard Central Middle School, followed by Millard South High School, which is graded a B-plus. Students may participate in the high school’s early college program, allowing them to earn college credits that transfer to the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Stores and restaurants are within a few miles from home

L Street Marketplace is about 2 miles away, featuring several national retailers and grocery stores, including Target, World Market and Sam’s Club. The shopping center also has multiple restaurants, including chains such as Wings and Rings, Pickleman’s Gourmet Café and Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen. More locally owned restaurants are about 2 miles away around Millard Plaza. Shirley’s Diner is a local favorite for its nostalgic rock ‘n’ roll atmosphere. There are also several late-night hangout spots, including Bogie’s Bar & Grill, Good Life Sports Bar & Grill and Choo Choo Bar & Grill, all of which stay open until 2 a.m.

Commuters drive 20 minutes to downtown Omaha

Those who live closer to Q Street have easy access to Omaha Metro public buses. The neighborhood is also about 2 miles from Interstate 80. From the interstate, it takes less than 20 minutes to drive nearly 15 miles to downtown Omaha. It’s another 3 miles from downtown to Eppley Airfield, which offers commercial flights to dozens of U.S. cities.
