'A complete mixture of houses' in Alta Vista
Homes line the narrow, meandering streets of Alta Vista, with pine and poplar trees shading the neighborhood. The neighborhood's oldest houses date from the early 1920s, but buyers will find a wide range of options. “You’ve got a complete mixture of houses,” says Natalie Bass, a Realtor with eXp Realty. “You might have a Spanish-style house next to something completely different. There’s a little more charm in the neighborhood compared to some others nearby.” Cottages and farmhouse-style homes with varying design influences were built in the first half of the 20th century and can go between $200,000 and $500,000. Ranch-style houses from the 1960s and 1970s sell between the mid-$200,000s and mid-$300,000s.

Floral Park's hyped renovations
Floral Park abuts Alta Vista, and residents can walk along the quiet neighborhood streets to the park. When renovations are complete, the park will include new turf fields, an inclusive playground and a splash pad. “Floral Park has always been good but now even more so,” Bass says. “There’s a lot of hype for the renovations.” A mile away, kids and parents alike can ride the “Rocky Brook Rocket” miniature train and enjoy the playgrounds at Municipal Park. But longtime Opelikans almost exclusively refer to it as “Monkey Park,” as eight spider monkeys lived in the park and entertained residents for nearly 25 years until they were transferred to the Montgomery Zoo in 1980. Golfers in the neighborhood head to the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Grand National, which has hosted PGA Tour events and has three 18-hole courses.
