Quick trips to the store and short strolls to the park
Similar to other Orland Park communities, neat subdivisions comprise the Silver Lake North neighborhood, a mostly residential zone known for its high-quality schools and access to suburban amenities in the village center. “The school system is in high demand, and the location is convenient for shopping and eating,” says Rick Wyrick, a broker with RE/MAX 1st Service. Numerous retail developments, including the Orland Square shopping mall, line La Grange Road. Two country clubs, both sporting golf courses open to the public, provide scenic green space and bespoke venues for weddings, banquets and other events. Within the neighborhood, quiet residential streets allow short walks to neighborhood parks with popular sledding hills and playgrounds. Even more recreational parks and trails are nearby. Silver Lake North has a 2 out of 10 on the CAP Index Crime Score, lower than the national average of 4.
Silver Lake Country Club's public greens
Schussler Park is one of several green spaces in the neighborhood. Residents can also bike a paved trail stretching from Colonial Park to South Harlem Avenue, following the path of power lines between different sections of the community. Just south, the Silver Lake Country Club boasts 45 golf holes across three courses. Palos Country Club features a nine-hole course on the other side of the neighborhood. Near the large indoor shopping mall sits the Sky Zone Trampoline Park. About 5 miles north of the neighborhood, folks enjoy the outdoors at Shadow Cliff Stairs, a regional open-space park in the middle of an expansive, wooded nature preserve. “People walk up and down the steps for exercise year-round and sled down the hill during the winter,” says Michelle Beckers, a Realtor with Village Realty and longtime Orland Park resident. The recently renovated Centennial Park, 3 miles southwest, also stays busy throughout the year, thanks to its ice skating rink and water park, a lake with a public boat launch, and several other facilities.

Sharing the stretch are grocery stores, such as Mariano’s and Trader Joe’s, as well as Orland Square, an indoor shopping mall with H&M, American Eagle and other big-name retailers.

Silver Lake North's varying architecture
"The houses are a little older in Silver Lake North than South, but it's a pretty close-knit community for the size," Wyrick says. These homes, built from the mid-to-late 20th century through the 2000s, present a variety of architectural styles, ranging from ranch and split-level styles to brick-clad New Traditionals and custom builds. Many properties comprise several different subdivisions, which come with homeowners association services like lawn maintenance and snow removal. Commonalities include lots averaging just over a quarter-acre, attached garages and narrow, tree-lined sidewalks. Prices typically range from $250,000 to $600,000, although larger homes on more acreage can surpass $800,000. A veritable mansion spanning more than 6,000 square feet sold for nearly $1.5 million in November 2024. Condos and townhomes range from $100,000 to $540,000, depending on size and condition.
