Clear Lake maximizes waterfront living thanks to its central lake and series of canals. The neighborhood shares its name with Clear Lake; the 350-acre body of water is one of the biggest lakes within 5 miles of downtown Orlando. Clear Lake residents don’t only have waterfront views, but they can also boat and ski, which is rare for a lake so close to the city center. Interstate 4 runs past the neighborhood, speeding up commutes to the east and west sides of the metro.

Condos, ranch-style homes and a Venice-inspired development
Dozens of houses border Clear Lake, and dozens more line canals in the Isle of Catalina subdivision. Developers dug the canals in the 1950s and ‘60s to emulate Amsterdam and Venice. Homeowners often keep boats docked out back and steer them down the canals to the open waters of Clear Lake. Not every home in Isle of Catalina is on the water, but residents can also hit the lake using the community’s boat dock. Meanwhile, rows of ranch-style homes fill the inland streets. Condos are clustered in a couple of complexes on the neighborhood’s south side.

Recreation on and around Clear Lake
People boat, paddle and even ski on Clear Lake. “It’s one of the few skiable lakes in the downtown Orlando area,” says Rochelle Warriner, a Realtor with United Real Estate Preferred who sells homes across Orlando. “And from a price-point standpoint, it’s the most affordable skiable lake in the area. Lake access is huge for homeowners.” People living along the lakefront and canals can cast a line or launch a boat from their private docks. If you don’t live on the lake, you can still fish from the piers at Clear Lake Park and George Barker Park. Both parks also have playgrounds and walking paths.

Home prices in Clear Lake tend to be below the Orlando median.
Home prices, HOA dues and condo association fees
Buyers can snag a fixer upper for less than $200,000. Prices for move-in-ready homes usually vary from the lower $200,000s to the upper $400,000s. Occasionally, remodeled waterfront homes will sell from the lower $600,000s to the lower $700,000s. Condo communities come with lower price tags that stand out to investors, says Daniel Colombo, an agent with Realty Hub who has sold several units in the Catalina Isle Condominiums complex. “They have a high return on investment. They sell for $95,000 and rent out for $1,450, $1,500 [a month].” Recent condo sales varied from the mid-$80,000s to the upper $90,000s.
House prices might not be the only cost for homebuyers. For example, Isle of Catalina charges HOA dues of less than $100 per month. Catalina Isle condo association fees run from $318 to $556 per month, depending on the size of the unit.
The Mall at Millennia has more than 150 businesses, including the Apple Store.
Close to key highways, employers and attractions
Two major highways, Interstate 4 and Florida state Road 408, are nearby. That makes it easy to get around town, but living next to the roadways can be noisy. Several notable employers and attractions are less than 10 miles from Clear Lake:
Camping World Stadium hosts sports games and concerts a mile away.
Orlando Regional Medical Center employs thousands of people 2 miles away.
Downtown Orlando is home to more than 90,000 jobs about 3 miles away.
The Mall at Millenia houses upscale stores roughly 3 miles away.
Universal Orlando Resort has theme parks, restaurants and bars about 8 miles away.
Lynx buses stop along South John Young Parkway. They take about an hour to reach Kissimmee, where a lot of people work health care and tourism jobs.
Medical career courses available at Jones High
Clear Lake is within the highly rated Orange County Public Schools district. Nearby Jones High School hosts the district’s Medical Magnet program. Classes are taught on campus, but students in the program also train at hospitals and the Orange Technical College simulation lab. Teens who are willing to complete the program, which requires summer school, can earn college credits and even take the test to become a licensed nurse.
