Lake Nona Golf and Country Club is like ‘being at The Ritz-Carlton 24/7’
Guards, gates, lakes and trees surround Lake Nona Golf & Country Club, where privacy and luxury draw residents ranging from professional athletes to international buyers seeking a second home. Within the Orlando neighborhood’s gates, custom houses line manicured fairways, some residents can see nearby lakes from their backyard pools and a helipad waits for those who need to make a quick entrance or exit. “When you pull past the guardhouse, your blood pressure drops,” says Deanna Armel, broker of Armel Real Estate and a neighborhood resident. “You’re surrounded by deer and aged oak trees.” With a median price of around $2 million, the golf course community isn’t for everyone. “If it’s in your budget, there’s nothing like the lifestyle,” Armel says. “You bop around in your golf cart. You pour yourself a glass of wine, drive around and watch the sunset.” In addition to the home prices, residents may pay hefty property taxes and homeowners association fees. However, Armel says the cost of living is reflected in the level of community services. “I always say it’s like being at The Ritz-Carlton 24/7. If a hurricane knocks down trees on Monday, you’re going to wake up on Tuesday and not even be able to tell there was a hurricane.”

High-end homes geared toward an exclusive clientele
Privacy is one of the main draws to the neighborhood, where gates, hedges and lines of trees often surround homes. “There are some houses that are 10 feet apart, but you can’t see into one house from the other,” Armel says. These large homes average about 5,000 square feet, and they stand on lots of about half an acre. Custom homebuilders construct homes in Lake Nona Golf & Country Club, so architectural styles vary widely. Spanish-style features, particularly tile roofs, are common, but Tudor Revival and contemporary designs are also present. Homes often sell between $1 million and $5 million, though prices can climb even higher. For potential homebuyers, touring a listing isn’t as simple as meeting an agent at the front door. Buyers have to show proof that they have the funds to buy the property, and they often meet the community director for a tour of the entire neighborhood.

Golf course stands out among country club’s recreation offerings
Many residents join the country club, which offers golf memberships and social memberships. Those who pay for golf memberships can play the community’s private 18-hole course. Designed by renowned golf course architect Tom Fazio, the course hosts the LPGA’s Tournament of Champions. The country club also features tennis courts and a swimming pool. The community borders three lakes, with a few homes connected to the water by private docks. For everyone else, a communal pier and boat storage make it possible to take a boat, kayak or paddleboard out on the lakes. A couple of miles outside Lake Nona Golf & Country Club, kids can play baseball or climb on the playground at the city’s McCoy Community Park.

Markets, art shows and other events held across Lake Nona
The social scene concentrates at the country club, known for its events for residents of all ages. “It’s a relaxed environment,” says Cristina Aguirre Colasanti, broker of ACG Homes. “It’s family friendly. You can wear shorts and jeans; it’s not super stiff.” Elaborate theming and planning define the events. For example, the annual Christmas party brings a horse-drawn carriage and ballerinas to the club. “You don’t wait in line to see Santa,” Aguirre Colasanti says. “He comes to your table and greets your kid by name.” Residents dress up in costumes for the Autumn Classic, a party with a theme that changes every year. To celebrate Veterans Day, paratroopers jump from a plane, and streams of red, white and blue smoke follow them through the sky before they land on the 18th green.
Residents are minutes away from events happening elsewhere in the Lake Nona community. The Lake Nona Town Center frequently hosts gatherings, such as Art After Dark, an evening art show where wine and food are available. Meanwhile, the Lake Nona Farmers Market is held twice per month at the Laureate Park Village Center.

Plus, people can get food service while relaxing poolside. Outside the neighborhood, more options line Narcoossee Road.
