North Oswego's suburban feel with proximity to shopping
In one of the area’s fastest-growing cities, North Oswego residents enjoy suburban convenience. The neighborhoods are strictly residential, with several developments around North Oswego offering a different feel and community. Also called Walter Payton Memorial Highway, US Route 34 bisects the community, lined with big box chains and grocery stores. While the rest of the Aurora-Naperville area comes to North Oswego to do their shopping, community residents have the luxury of having this retail corridor just a few minutes away. While North Oswego itself might represent contemporary suburban living in Chicago's smaller cities, downtown Oswego is close by, offering small-town charm with its annual events and local restaurants along the Fox River.

New Traditionals and Colonial Revivals throughout North Oswego
Because North Oswego is a collection of various suburban subdivisions, the different communities have some unique features. The Northampton subdivision’s streets lack sidewalks, but have mature trees shading yards. Professional landscapers create lush gardens with cherry trees and redbuds adding a pop of color in the spring. Meanwhile, the Churchill subdivision on the southern side of US-34 has a more open feel with young saplings along the sidewalks and yards without front gardens. Despite the different atmospheres, most neighborhoods throughout North Oswego feature Colonial Revival and New Traditional homes selling between $300,000 and $600,000. The community also offers some townhouses, selling for closer to $200,000 and $300,000.

Driving to downtown Oswego along US-34
While US-34 is lined with Oswego’s grocery stores and chains, this thoroughfare also connects North Oswego with downtown, about 2.5 miles away. Farmers' markets and annual wine tastings in downtown Oswego
Because North Oswego is so close to downtown, residents can head there for the city’s seasonal and annual events. Each May, the community gathers downtown for Wine on the Fox, where they can sample regional wines while listening to live music. “For Wine on the Fox, they’ll block off portions of the downtown area and they’ll have different wines and vineyards come and set up booths,” Brown says. “It’s probably become one of the most well-attended events.” From June to September, the Oswego Country Market brings local produce and baked goods to downtown every Sunday morning. Every June, Prairiefest features a parade, carnival and concerts. “And they usually get some pretty good headliners and names that people will know,” Brown says.
