Highways, stores and historic cemeteries
Seven Hills, one of the first neighborhoods to form in Owensboro after development along the Ohio River, offers an array of city and suburban conveniences. Shopping, restaurants and parks all share space with the community's primarily residential streets. Two major highways intersect within the neighborhood, creating quick access for trips down the highway. While the neighborhood has many options, residents are just south of downtown, keeping city events and highly-rated restaurants within reach. The community is also home to historic cemeteries, one of which hosts a cherished annual event.
Seven Hills is only a short drive to downtown Owensboro and the Ohio River.

Older homes and cul-de-sac subdivisions
Seven Hills has a mix of retail corridors, industrial buildings, office spaces and residential streets. The number of owner-occupied and renter-occupied properties throughout the neighborhood is roughly the same. "It's an older part of town. They have a few different housing projects there, like rent assistance and housing grants," says Glen Ashby, Realtor at RE/Max Professional Realty Group, who used to work in the area. Architectural designs include New Traditional homes, Cape Cods, bungalows and ranch-style homes, many of which feature earthy red brick exteriors. Investment properties and starter homes range between $40,000 and $100,000, while all other properties typically cost between $130,000 and $400,000. Homes built within the past 20 years sell on the higher end of that range. Newer homes are typically part of cul-de-sac subdivisions with large yards, attached garages and well-maintained sidewalks. Older subdivisions normally have smaller lot sizes with some hills, and lawns stretch to the curb.
Seven Hills has many bungalow style homes throughout.

Shopping at the 54-60 intersection
Most retail offerings are in the neighborhood's southeastern corner. Major brands like Meijer, Menards, Aldi and Walmart surround the intersection of Kentucky State Route 54 and Highway 60. Various chain restaurants, specialized suppliers and a few local staples sit between these large retailers. El Bracero of Owensboro serves Mexican favorites from a bright red barnyard-style building, while Drake's Owensboro offers everything from beer cheese to poke bowls. Scattered throughout the rest of the community are smaller businesses and eateries. The Unique Nest and Don's Consignment have eclectic furniture finds, and Rolling Pin Pastry Shop's dessert windows brim with freshly made donuts, fritters and crème horns. If these options don't suffice, downtown offers an array of options around the corner.
Seven Hills have various grocery shopping options nearby, including Meijer.

Jogging past anglers at Yewells-Heritage Park
The neighborhood has quite a few green spaces, including 31-acre Chautauqua Park on the northern side of the community. That's where skateboarders, inline skaters and BMX bikers congregate at the Travis Aubrey Skate Park while families enjoy the sun at Combest Pool in the summertime. Kids also play on the playground, and teams go head-to-head on the ball fields. However, soccer leagues meet at Horse Fork Creek Park because of its abundance of soccer fields. The park also has a playground and a seasonal splash pad. Yewells-Heritage Park is nearby, with a 44-acre natural area and a stocked fishing lake that is open to the public. The Adkisson Greenbelt runs past the lake and all around the city, making it a convenient option for long-distance cyclists and runners.
The Voices of Elmwood heard annually
Seven Hills is home to several cemeteries. The most notable are Rosehill and Elmwood, which are right across the street from one another. These have become a popular local attraction around September and October because The Owensboro Museum of Science and History hosts the annual Voices of Elmwood event. Hourly wagon rides take groups all along the cemetery, stopping at various headstones where actors in period costumes perform monologues on the lives of the people buried there. "Every year, there are new stories, and our actors come from all over, like the local high schools, theater groups and colleges," says Gracie Adelman, guest services manager at the Owensboro Museum of Science and History. "This year, we're even doing a piece on one of the cemetery's fields that has over 10,000 buried but no headstones." She says that during the last week of performances, they add a stationary, tented version of the tour to accommodate large groups, small children and those who may not be comfortable riding in a wagon. The event is a beloved fall activity among locals because it honors the city's history and the memory of those who have died.

Getting around Owensboro with 54 and 60
Seven Hills' location puts residents between several necessary transportation and employment corridors. However, locals are car-dependent, as no bus lines run through the area. Kentucky State Route 54 intersects with Highway 60 inside the neighborhood, occasionally creating congestion and excess noise because both are large thoroughfares surrounded by businesses. Seven Hills is also directly below downtown and Old Owensboro, the city's epicenters for employment and entertainment. For flights, Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport is less than 5 miles west.
