The city’s southern commercial sector
Southeast Owensboro's lifestyle is all about outdoor recreation and commercial options. Just 3 miles from downtown Owensboro, the neighborhood is home to Owensboro Country Club, where locals are only a few steps away from laidback trips around the greens and private amenities. Outside of country club life, the entire southern half of the neighborhood has nationally recognized retail stores and restaurants. Grocery hauls, dinners out and entertainment venues are only a short trek away. Two major highways intersect along the community's western border, and home prices are about equal with the city's average unless buyers splurge on a larger home by the golf course.

Big brands and diverse restaurants by the highways
Southeast Owensboro's long western border is completely lined with restaurants and businesses. Chains and local eateries sit next to healthcare service providers and convenience stores. Great Harvest Bread Co bakes its five-ingredient bread loaves fresh every morning, while Scooter's Coffee brews espresso all day. For entertainment, Diamond Lanes South is a favorite for knocking down pins. South of Highway 60, the neighborhood becomes entirely commercial. "That is probably the second most traversed commercial sector in the city," says Sean Higgins, Realtor with RE/MAX Professional Realty Group, who's sold homes in the area. "The east side has most of the growth, but there is new investment going down in the south." Hagan's Outdoor Equipment, Walmart Supercenter, Best Buy, Target, PetSmart and Lowe's Home Improvement are some of the stores in the area. West of Highway 431, more options like Sam's Club, The Home Depot and Michaels join the mix. More nationally recognized restaurants are available, too.

Red-brick one-story homes selling at city's average price point
A cohesive look sweeps across the neighborhood. Red-brick homes sit side by side along extra wide roads. Neighbors walk dogs down well-maintained sidewalks lining short, bright green lawns with little shrubs and large-bowed trees. Higgins says that most houses are single-family ranch-style homes. This style appeals to a wide demographic, from first-time homebuyers to older clientele who prefer one-floor properties or want to downsize. Bungalows, New Traditional homes and a few condo communities are also available. "We have low inventory, and the neighborhood is a good price point for people, especially with the current interest rates," Higgins says. Most homes cost between $100,000 and $250,000. Expansive properties along the edges of the Owensboro Country Club are exceptions, as these listings can sell anywhere between $300,000 and $750,000.

Country club life and city-wide trails
The neighborhood has many recreational opportunities. Owensboro Country Club occupies much of the landscape, offering features like an 18-hole golf course, pickleball courts and a pool. Several membership types are available, including non-resident and corporate options. Paved trails like the Martin Luther King Jr. Loop and the 17-mile Adkisson Greenbelt also run through the neighborhood. To the north, Legion Park is the closest city park. Its 23 acres of green space hold playgrounds, picnic shelters and sports courts. In the summer, kids prance around the whimsically themed splash park with ultra-tall sprayers. Pet owners frequent the dog park while groups jog the half-mile walking trail.

Taking Highway 60 all over the city
Bus lines don't extend to Southeast Owensboro, so locals are car dependent. Highways 431 and 60 are the area's primary thoroughfares, especially since Highway 60 runs throughout Owensboro. It also leads northwest toward Henderson, 30 miles west, and Evansville, 46 miles northwest in Indiana. Since both highways are highly traveled, traffic along them occasionally contributes to excess noise in the neighborhood. To catch flights, Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport is less than 5 miles away.
