While the neighborhood of Pacific is technically a city located southwest of St. Louis, its residents would not call it a city nor would they call it a typical neighborhood. What most would call it is deep country. The total area covers about 10 square miles and about 7,400 people call Pacific home. Other than in the the small, historic downtown area that borders the Meramec River, most homes in Pacific are far apart from each other. There is no city life to speak of and residents will drive at least 40 minutes to reach downtown St. Louis.

As Dillmon explains, “Pacific defines rural living. I tell buyers, 'If you want to be near a mall or within walking distance of anything other than your backyard, this is not for you. But if you want your own land, a few acres, or to build your dream house for a lot less than you would closer to the city, then this may be ideal for you.'” Cottage-style farmhouses from the 1960s have recently sold for around $230,000. Log homes from 1992, on 4 acres, have recently sold for about $550,000.
