Five blocks from Downtown Paducah, Northside is a triangular cluster of homes and businesses bordered by Park Avenue and Northview Road. The neighborhood took root about 100 years ago in the fertile ground of Paducah's railroad industry. "In the '30s, '40s and '50s, the Illinois Central Railroad had a rebuild center for locomotives in that area," explains Realtor Stan Hack, who sells houses in the neighborhood with HRE Advisors. "During the timeframe when those houses were built, that was the place to be." Paducah's industrial decline dried up many of the area's jobs, leading to economic dislocation in Northside. In the face of those struggles, Northside's churches have kept the community strong with charitable outreach.
Northside is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Historic Craftsman-style homes and bungalows in need of renovation
Power lines run above the neighborhood's front lawns, which are shaded by old-growth trees. The backyards have enough space for residents to have barbecues and enjoy the yard. Trains run through the east end, causing some noise issues for residents. Home styles include late 19th-century and early 20th-century bungalows, ranch-style houses built from the 1950s through the '80s and some American Craftsman-style houses. The city has condemned and torn down many of Northside's houses, resulting in vacant lots. In 2022, Northside was added to the National Register of Historic Places, which enables homeowners to apply for tax credits for major renovation projects. "We have friends that recently renovated a home built in the early 1900s," Hack says. Home prices generally range from $50,000 to $165,000.
Northside has modest bungalows and smaller homes as well.
