Tilghman is a mid-century neighborhood about 2 miles southwest of Paducah. The residential blocks border Paducah Tilghman High School and Baptist Health Paducah hospital, which offers both urgent and emergency room care. The hospital includes Carson-Myre Heart Center, an award-winning cardiac center. "A lot of people move to this area for its proximity to the school and the hospital," says Realtor Lenny Powley, who sells homes in the neighborhood with LP Real Estate Services. "The neighborhood has a blend of longtime residents as well as renters, and it's the type of place where people can engage with their neighbors or choose to keep to themselves."
Public schools within walking distance
McNabb Elementary is a few blocks north, and Paducah Middle School is about a mile southwest of the neighborhood. Both schools have C-plus Niche ratings. Children often walk to Paducah Tilghman High School, in the center of the neighborhood. The school has an 83% graduation rate and a B-plus Niche rating. Through the school's Work-Based Learning Program, high school seniors shadow professionals in fields like medicine, the culinary arts and graphic design. Next door to Tilghman High, the Paducah Area Technology Center offers carpentry, welding, auto tech, auto body, and health sciences education to all Paducah students.

BBQ on the River and the McCracken County Fair
Since the early 2000s, the Artist Relocation Program has reshaped Paducah's cultural landscape. The program subsidized artists from all over the world to move into the city, injecting a new life into the downtown. Two miles northeast of Tilghman, Paducah's riverfront is now decorated with wall-to-wall murals chronicling the city's history from its humble beginnings as a trade hub and railroad town all the way up to the present day. The riverfront attracts thousands of residents throughout the year for events like its Fourth of July fireworks show and BBQ on the River, held every September. The annual barbecue festival includes live music and dozens of vendors. The neighborhood is less than 2 miles west of Paducah Symphony Orchestra Academy, where musicians hone their crafts in classes and perform in the music hall for up to 570 people. The neighborhood is two blocks south of Carson Park, the site of the annual McCracken County Fair. The week-long event attracts visitors for its car show, live music, Ferris wheel and fried food vendors.

Bob Noble Park and Keiler Park
Bob Noble Park is less than 2 miles northwest of Tilghman. The 135-acre green space has a swimming pool, a dog park, baseball fields, basketball and tennis courts, forested trails and a 5-acre lake with fishing piers. The 250-square-mile Kentucky Lake is about 67 miles southeast of Paducah. "Kentucky Lake happens to be one of the largest man-made lakes in the country, and it attracts a lot of Paducah residents for fishing and boating," Powley says. Keiler Park is half a mile east of the neighborhood. The 3-acre green space has a playground and a grassy open space for folks to picnic and play sports.

Red's Donut Shop and G&O Pharmacy
Folks walk to Jackson Street's restaurants on the neighborhood's southern border. El Sazon is a simple red brick building that serves authentic Mexican cuisine with cold bottles of Jarritos. When folks walk into Just Hamburgers, they take a seat at the stainless-steel counter, order their burger off a board on the wall and watch the fry cook prepare their meal. Just down the street, family-owned Red's Donut Shop has been in business since 1955 and was named the second-best doughnut shop in the South in 2024 by Southern Living magazine. Jackson Street also has big chains like KFC and McDonald's. On the north end of the neighborhood, G&O Pharmacy has been a staple for Tilghman residents for over 70 years. Patrons sit at its retro breakfast counter and converse with the cooks as they grill their bacon and eggs. The Midtown Market grocery store is half a mile west of the neighborhood.

Getting around Paducah
Paducah's downtown is a mile east, and folks reach it by walking or driving. Nashville International Airport is 140 miles southeast of Paducah via Interstate 24. Jefferson Street does not have access to public transportation.
