Most houses here were built between the 1960s and ‘80s, but some townhomes were added on the community’s east side in the early 2000s. The recreation center features basketball courts, an indoor track and a gym that’s completely free. Rainbow Park Amphitheater opened right around the corner in 2022. Delkab County’s newest entertainment venue, it hosts a free concert series every Thursday night during the summer, along with other musical performances throughout the year. The annual Christmas play occurs next door at the Porter Sanford Arts and Community Center. Just outside Panthersville, Perimeter College has a renowned botanical garden with over 4,000 native plants. It also serves as a trailhead for the South River Trail. From here, the paved pathway weaves around Sugar Creek Golf & Tennis Club and passes through Gresham Park, which features a large playground, a public pool and several sports fields.
Exchange Park boasts an expansive and vibrant splash pad, complete with colorful water jets that spray in various directions, providing a refreshing oasis for children and families to enjoy during warm summer days.

Shopping and dining along Candler Road
Old strip malls and independent restaurants line both sides of Candler Road, in the heart of Panthersville. Bordering sidewalks and crosswalks make it easy for residents to walk to the local grocery store. South New Orleans Seafood Inc. sells made-to-order steamed blue crabs right next door to the local butcher shop. Several retailers and a handful of eateries cluster together in The Gallery at South DeKalb, an old shopping mall. Fast food restaurants and a couple of regional chains also dot the highway.

Interstates 20 and 285 intersect at the northeast corner of Panthersville. From here, I-20 travels about 10 miles west to Downtown Atlanta. The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is just 15 miles away via I-285. This route forms a giant loop around the city, making it easy to get all around the metro area. Atlanta’s fixed route bus system has several stops on Candler Road.
