Parkland provides a piece of rural luxury in South Florida

In Pine Tree Estates, rustic streets lead you past a collection of posh custom homes. This Parkland development is a place where every property has its own unique personality, and where every resident gets about an acre of land to themselves. It’s a rural environment that’s conducive to Parkland’s active equestrian culture, but also close to the Sawgrass Expressway and to shopping and dining options along State Road 7.

Housing options offer prospective buyers a precise fit

Pine Tree Estates unfolds into a series of lengthy residential roads off the main stretch of Holmberg Road. The quiet streets here feature all sorts of single- and multistory homes that were built between 1985 and 2010 in most cases. Most also have Mediterranean style influences. But that’s where the similarities stop. You can find anything from a three-bedroom option to a 10-bedroom estate in Pine Tree Estates. Floor plans average about 3,200 square feet.

There’s no HOA in Pine Tree Estates, unlike some other subdivisions in the area, including Country Place and Country Point Estates, and homeowners can keep horses on their property. It’s not uncommon to see people riding down the street. “It’s a very equestrian-heavy area,” says Lino De Villegas, who’s the managing broker at United Real Estate Miami and has over 15 years of experience. “If you drive around Parkland, you have stables, horse trainers, things like that.” Pine Tree Properties sell for prices from the low $1 million range to the upper $3 million range in most cases. That’s compared to prices from the lower $700,000s to the lower $1 million range in the neighboring Country Place and Country Point Estates.

Fine arts programs thrive at the local high school

The highly rated Broward County Public Schools system serves kids in the Pine Tree Estates area. The district allows you and your family to apply for magnet programs and open enrollment to attend schools outside your area. However, all the schools Pine Tree Estates is zoned for are top-rated, including Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, which has a dedicated fine arts program with award-winning theater, music and visual arts branches.

True to its name, green space is easy to find in Parkland

Greenery is abundant around Pine Tree Estates itself, thanks to the lush trees and shrubbery that accent most of the neighborhood’s properties. Step just outside the neighborhood, and recreational green space is easy to find, too. It’s right in Parkland’s name. “The name Parkland is because of all the parks,” de Villegas says. Terramar Park is one of the closest, a sprawling spot with multiple athletic fields, courts and a lake that’s open to fishing. Liberty Park offers a pair of playgrounds and a horse corral, and neighbors the 2-acre Barkland Dog Park. Residents who ride horses are within about 3 miles of the Equestrian Center at Temple Park, where there’s open space and two rings to gallop through. It’s a popular spot in town, de Villegas says.

Neighboring thoroughfare is a destination for dining and shopping

You can get from Pine Tree Estates’ rural setting and over to your pick of stores and restaurants in a matter of minutes. Nearby State Road 7 features spots like the Coral Creek Shops plaza, which is anchored by a Publix and also offers a UPS Store and Advance Auto. Also, the Caligo Crossing shopping center with Kohl’s and AT&T. There’s also a Walmart Supercenter and BJ’s Wholesale Club on intersecting Hillsboro Boulevard. Places for food on Route 7 include:

  • Yalla Beiruty, which specializes in Mediterranean food, from kebabs to shawarma
  • Toreros Mexican Grill, where the margaritas are a hit
  • Sette Mezzo, an Italian restaurant whose chef was born in Sicily

Area highways make for easier travel through the region

Pine Tree Estates is just a couple of miles from the Sawgrass Expressway, which connects to Florida’s Turnpike for trips north to places like Boca Raton and south to cities like Fort Lauderdale. Both are within 25 miles. “It’s not far from anything, really, in South Florida,” de Villegas says. “You can get pretty much anywhere with a drive.” Commuters can also get around the area on the Broward County Transit bus service, which has stops along State Road 7.

Parkland promotes community activities

Residents can leave the relative seclusion of Pine Tree Estates and connect with other Parkland locals at one of the city’s multiple annual events. There’s the Eggstravaganza egg hunt in the spring at Terramar Park, for example, and a Halloween Festival in October at the Equestrian Center at Temple Park, complete with a trunk or treat. The Equestrian Center at Temple Park also hosts a farmers market every other Sunday, featuring dozens of vendors.
