Big city excitement and small town charm in Downtown St. Petersburg
With the classic liveliness of a downtown plus St. Petersburg's own unique flair, Downtown St. Petersburg has no problem keeping its residents busy. “We’ve got shops, restaurants, nightlife, events … we really just have it all,” says Nicoleta Forbes, Realtor with Douglas Elliman and longtime resident of the area. “And it’s all so connected and easily walkable too.” With its abundance of shops and eateries, exciting events and nightlife, and nearby nature, Downtown St. Petersburg offers residents an opportunity to live in a truly unique environment—one that is as full of urban excitement as it is the charm of a smaller community full of local history.

Local businesses reign
Whether it’s a relaxing view at a waterside retreat or a trip to one of the area’s unique bars, residents have plenty of options when it comes to shopping, dining, and nightlife. Foodies can explore the St. Pete Pier for its well-known eateries, such as Teak St. Pete—a local favorite located at the tip of the pier featuring some of the top chefs in the greater Tampa area along with breathtaking views of the bay. For a more casual dining experience, Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grill serves up fresh seafood paired with an extensive premium rum selection. Local boutiques line the streets and the pier as well. “St. Pete is very, very big on staying local,” Forbes says. “In the downtown area, we don’t really have a lot of chain restaurants, for example.” Despite its urban setting, the neighborhood displays a strong community spirit in its efforts to keep St. Petersburg local—something both the citizens and governing body support.

Condos with sweeping bay views
Walkability is one of the key aspects of living in Downtown St. Petersburg, and much of that walkability stems from the condominiums and townhouses located in the area. While single-family homes are rare without exploring some of the adjoining neighborhoods outside of downtown, this comes with its own benefits. “You’re not as likely to bump into tourists,” says Forbes. “You have condos with amazing bay views, but because it’s the bay instead of the beach, it’s much less crowded.” As mentioned, condos are the most abundantly available types of homes, with prices ranging from $275,000 (for a one-bedroom condo) to $2.5 million (for larger, bayside penthouses).

Weekends at the farmers market
“We’ve got events happening just about every weekend,” says Forbes. “Something is always going on in one of the parks, or the museums, or at our big farmers market.” Residents can head to the pier for seasonal festivals, and more unique festivals like Reggae Rise Up can be found at Vinoy Park. North Straub Park is the host for the semi-regular Movies in the Park events, and local favorite French Fry Festival brings out local food trucks and vendors in droves.

St. Pete Pier
St. Pete Pier serves as one of the area’s best spots to take in a view of the water, or even go for a jog. Kids can enjoy the splash pad on the pier, as well. Biking trails line the edges of the water, making the area excellent for those who enjoy the hobby. Once residents have their fill of outdoor fun, they can head to one of the many museums in the downtown area. The Dali Museum is considered the heart of the local art scene and has been celebrating Salvador Dali’s work since 1982. For those more interested in science, the Innovation District features thousands of teachers and researchers from several local establishments all striving towards the same goal of advancing ideas and promoting discovery.

Urban amenities, suburban vibes
Despite the fact that the neighborhood is about as in the action as it can be — with its attractions, amenities and the hustle and bustle of daily life — the area maintains a neighborly feel. “That’s the great part about being in St. Pete,” says Forbes. “Because we’re a smaller city, I can go to the local Home Depot and see several people I know.” With its access to St. Petersburg and Tampa, along with the fact that it still retains a unique natural beauty, Downtown St. Petersburg is appealing for those looking to have a bit of both worlds.
