Friendly country living in a close-knit community 40 miles northeast of New Orleans
A little under an hour northeast of New Orleans is the small town of Pearl River. Stationed along the Louisiana-Mississippi state border and pocketed within the Louisiana Northshore region, Pearl River contains residential and commercial spaces on the southside while its northern half primarily comprises swampland within the Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge. While not a bustling metropolis, Pearl River does offer a close-knit community and a friendly country feel. "Pearl River is a very neighborly kind of town," says local realtor Peggy Newcomb of Latter & Blum, who has sold over 100 homes in the area. "Everybody knows everybody, everybody looks out for everybody. I just think it's a very neighborly kind of town."
Pearl River is home to the Honey Island Swamp.

Pearl River homes range in style and size
Pearl River offers a wide range of home styles from smaller manufactured and ranch-style dwellings to larger, more contemporary builds with colonial-infused brick architecture and big, sprawling lawns. "Even though it has a small-town feel, it also has a rural feel. People's lots are not as small as other areas," Newcomb says. A smaller home can price between $100,000 and $200,000 while larger properties with four bedrooms can range from $300,000 to upwards of $500,000. According to Newcomb, the housing market in Pearl River is less competitive than the average neighborhood with some homes taking over two months to sell.
Smaller homes can be found when looking to move to Pearl River.
