Bridesburg
Well-maintained twin homes and new construction
Much of Bridesburg comprises typical urban street blocks, bordered by industrial zones, the I-95 and the Delaware River, which gives the community a feeling of privacy from the hustle and bustle of Philadelphia. Nine of every ten homes in the community are owner-occupied, with a handful of rental properties and new construction popping up in recent years. Three-story townhomes and brick rowhomes are available in a range of floorplans, all with no H.O.A. and ample street parking. Prices in Bridesburg have been steadily increasing, but the community has come together in recent years against rising prices. "Its pretty tight-knit up there, prices are steady but they've been coming up little by little," says Seth Govan, a local Realtor at HomeSmart Realty Group with over ten years of experience. Two-bedroom twin homes needing some T.L.C. can go for $150,000, while more updated townhomes or new construction costs $515,000 or more.Locals can bike around and take the commuter rail from Bridesburg Station
Locals can bike or walk around the neighborhood easily enough. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority has public bus stops throughout the neighborhood, and the Bridesburg Station offers passage via the SEPTA Trenton Line. Center City is six miles to the south via public transit or the I-95 expressway, which forms the neighborhood's northern boundary.Groceries from corner stores and local cafes
Corner stores like K Food Market offer basic groceries just down the street from most Bridesburg homes. Big box stores are also available at Aramingo Crossings, just two miles to the west. Bridesburg also has a range of locally owned cafes and restaurants. Residents can start their day on Richmond Street at I Knead Coffee, a local café serving specialty beverages, baked goods and small meals. West down Richmond Street is Old English Pizza, a casual neighborhood spot with a comprehensive spread of pizzas and Philly-style sandwiches for takeout and delivery. Krick Wuder Saloon and Restaurant is on the northern end of the community, dishing out classic pub and American fare in a building with beautiful mural artworks adorning the outdoor patio.After-school programs
After school, parents can bring their children to Bridesburg indoor recreation centers. The Bridesburg Recreation Center has athletic facilities for the community. The center also hosts after-school programs for local children and seasonal events such as trick-or-treat and ornament-making for the holidays. Parents can also bring their children to the Bridesburg Boys & Girls Club, which offers career development, STEM, athletics and literacy classes for the community's youth. Just across the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge is the Palmyra Cove Nature Park, with over 250 acres of wetland along the Delaware River and scenic trails for visitors to hike through.Physical and culinary excellence in Bridesburg schools
The School District of Philadelphia serves Bridesburg's public school students, who begin their academic careers at primary schools like Bridesburg Elementary and the First Philadelphia Charter School. Both schools participate in the Students Run Philly Style program, offering exercise programs and mentorship. Students then move on to secondary institutions such as Frankford High School. This high school has an award-winning culinary arts program gives students hands-on training in various kitchen environments and a theoretical framework of culinary terminology, ingredient identification, and restaurant management.
