East Falls
Period architecture suburbs and colorful rowhomes in East Falls
Forested suburban streets and river valley parks slope down from the northwest into neat suburbs and urban street blocks in the southeast. The whole neighborhood is bordered by the Wissahickon Creek and the Schuylkill River, so locals are always close to the waterfront. The residential landscape of East Falls features a range of classic Philadelphia twin and rowhomes, along with a smattering of larger single-family houses. Vibrant-colored facades and ample street parking are some of the perks of East Falls' row and twin homes, as well as being within a short distance of community amenities. East Falls single-family houses often feature the asymmetrical half-timber exterior typical of Tudor-style homes. Still, there are also a fair amount of contemporary home builds available. "It's a pretty trendy area, lots of new builds next to older homes, more eclectic than other Philly neighborhoods," says Seth Govan, a local Realtor for HomeSmart Realty Advisors with over 10 years of experience. Prices range from $210,000 for a condo or twin home to $800,000 or more for large Colonial or Tudor-revival houses.Franchise grocers and locally owned restaurants
East Falls has a variety of locally owned restaurants and markets around the neighborhood. ShopRite on Fox Street is one supermarket chain in East Falls that offers brand-name groceries and baked goods. "It's got a lot of good restaurants, nice little bars and such. The neighborhood has that trendy vibe," says local realtor Seth Govan. Locals have their pick of corner pubs and riverside restaurants in East Falls. Billy Murphy's Irish Saloon is on the corner of Indian Queen Lane and Conrad Street, offering a range of brews and specialty drinks in a classic Irish pub. In Riva is a pizza place along the Schuylkill River, offering fresh-made wood-oven pizzas, a riverside patio and an industrial-themed dining room.Produce and artworks at East Fall's Farmer's Market
Farmers, artisans and community organizations gather under the Twin Bridges for the weekly East Falls Farmers' Market. On Saturdays, locals can browse through vendors offering prepped foods and beverages, fresh produce and unique artworks. The East Falls Community Council and other neighborhood groups also put on various flea markets and seasonal events throughout the year.Extracurriculars at Central High School

The school is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and teaches from pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade. Students move on to secondary institutions such as Central High School. The high school holds an overall A-plus rating and features a wealth of extracurriculars, from the student-led Afrocentric Magazine to a Robotics Team that has been inducted into the F.I.R.S.T. Robotics Hall of Fame. East Falls is also home to a Thomas Jefferson University campus, a private research university with over 160 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.Lush green spaces and riverfront hiking in East Falls
Locals only have a short walk from their homes to hiking trails along the riverfront or the public parks scattered around the neighborhood. McMichael Park is in the center of East Falls on Midvale Avenue. Named for a former Philadelphia mayor, the park features five acres of open space, including a war memorial, children's playgrounds and shaded picnic spaces. Local athletes head down Scotts Lane to the McDevitt Recreation Center, which features an indoor basketball court, tennis courts, baseball and soccer fields. The Schuylkill River Trail runs diagonally along East Falls' southwest, offering views of the river and Philadelphia's steel arch bridges. Wissahickon Valley Park lies along the eponymous creek in the neighborhood's northwest, offering miles of waterfront and dense forest trail hiking.SEPTA rail and freeway access offers quick commutes from East Falls
