Rhawnhurst
Neighborhood in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Philadelphia County 19111, 19152
From farmland to twins and ranch-style homes
Rhawnhurst was mostly farmland until 1940 when development began to commercialize the neighborhood. Demand for housing rose in the 1960s following the baby boom, which led to a mass production of twins and a few ranch-style homes built by home builder A.P. Orleans. Most homes come with attached garages in the front or through a back alleyway. Homes that do have backyards are typically fenced in and right up against adjacent neighbors. The neighborhood consists of long grid-pattern streets with sidewalks, making this an easy area to navigate and go for a stroll. Home prices typically fall between $275,000 and $500,000. There are a total of about 7,440 homes in the neighborhood and the average number of days on the market for Rhawnhurst is lower than the national average. Houses can date as far back as 1925 or as recently as 2024. They range from 740 to 3,000 square feet in size.Walk along the creek
Pennypack Park is one of the neighborhood’s most popular destinations. The park follows the creek for nine miles and covers 1,600 acres of everything from wetlands to woodlands. Visitors love the paved and unpaved trails, perfect for hiking and biking. History lovers will appreciate the historic buildings, arrowheads and stone tools still being found in the area that reflect the park’s story from its Native American presence and early settlers to its days as a mill and small industrial center producing flour, lumber and textiles. For a more open space, Bradford Park has large grassy fields and is commonly used as a dog park.School with a space program

Northeast High School received a B-minus rating from Niche and is famous for its Project Space Research Center (SPARC). The SPARC program began in 1962 and has evolved tremendously over the years, giving students hands-on experience simulating spaceborne missions with a shuttle orbiter mockup, a training capsule that was actually used during NASA’s Apollo missions, a mission control center and robotic laboratories.Hop on the SEPTA

There are lots of other big retailers and grocery stores adjacent to the mall, including Target, GIANT and ACME.
