Miles of trails at Wissahickon Valley Park
La Noce is a small, shaded pocket park with a playground packed with kids after school. Yet the community’s real gem is the 1,800-acre Wissahickon Valley Park. “It’s a super popular spot for runners and bikers,” says Suzi King, local Realtor with Keller Williams Real Estate Media, who has 20 years of experience in the area. The park boasts dozens of trails stretching for miles that offer an urban escape. Residents can climb up 100 granite steps along Freeland Avenue to reach the Wissahickon Bike Trail, a paved creekside path. Others can explore one of the various rugged dirt trails, like Lover’s Leap, or one of the many historic landmarks scattered throughout. The Monastery Stables also keep the equestrian history in the area alive and well. For a different greenery scene, the member-based Walnut Lane Golf Course is on the western side of Wissahickon Valley. The highly rated Legacy Youth Tennis and Education facility and indoor sports courts at Gustine Recreation Center are also close by.20th-century stone and brick townhomes
Wissahickon’s history is seen throughout the community’s architecture, with most homes dating back to the early 1900s. The community is evenly split between renters and owners, boasting a mix of apartment complexes and single-family homes. City streets shadowed by towering oak trees are lined by rows of brick and stone townhouses. Prices for these can range from the $200,000s for a move-in ready but outdated three-bedroom to $600,000s for a newly renovated four-bedroom. Other road give way to twin duplexes with stately columns and small but welcoming front porches within the same price range. Many properties feature fenced-in backyards, and street parking is the norm, but a few enjoy private driveways. Stand-alone colonials and Victorian-style homes are few and far between, with prices ranging from the $300,000s to the mid $500,000s. BridgeFive Condominium also has two-bedroom units within the $200,000s.Breweries and eateries along Main Street
Wissahickon is home to a few local spots like C&C Creamery, formerly the Custard Stand. Since 1951, it’s been a community staple known for some of the city’s best custard and water ice. Locals can fuel up for the day at Unity Java or grab a sweet pastry from The Biscuit Lady. Dawson Street Pub is the neighborhood bar with nightly live music, and Wissahickon Brewing Company. “Manayunk Brewing Company is more popular,” King says. “It has an outdoor area that overlooks the river.” Bark Social is another favorite spot for furry friends to play while enjoying a craft cocktail. “They are fairly new and super popular. I cannot wait to take my puppy there,” King says. From here, a short walk along the Pencoyd Bridge leads to The Landing Kitchen, an eatery known for its burgers and riverside views. Farther west, Main Street turns into a vibrant and bustling corridor in neighboring Manayunk, brimming with small art studios, retail boutiques, breweries and eateries. “They have a really good Roaster Beet Salad,” Murphy says. Other spots like The Goat’s Beard and The Couch Tomato Café & Bistro are popular date night getaways. Ridge Avenue features retailers like ACME Markets, ShopRite of Roxborough and Target for weekly essentials.Historic landmarks and events around Wissahickon
