Historic homes with renovations and modern condos near campus
Many of Campus Vista’s signature ranch-style homes were built between the mid-1940s and the 1960s. While the interiors of these properties are often completely updated, homeowners must follow guidelines from the Phoenix Historic Preservation Office when making changes to their homes' exteriors, porches, roofs and windows. “Some people want to come in and do some remodeling and modernizing without knowing anything about it, but the historic preservation office finds out quickly, and they’re shut down in a New York second,” says Laura Boyajian, a Realtor with HomeSmart Elite Group who has lived in Phoenix for over 40 years and specializes in historic neighborhoods. Renovated, historic ranch homes are listed for $300,000 to $700,000. Modern condo units are also available on the south side of Campus Vista, close to Phoenix College. These units sell for $100,000 to $300,000.Sports, golfing and amusement park rides at Encanto Park
Campus Vista is just a mile from Encanto Park, one of the biggest city parks in Phoenix. The expansive park has a pool, sports complex, fishing ponds and two golf courses. The Enchanted Island Amusement Park is also inside Encanto Park, where families can take pedal boats on the pond or take a spin on the park’s historic carousel. Encanto Community Church on 7th Avenue borders the park, while Community Church of Hope on the same street is on the opposite side of Campus Vista.Osborn and Phoenix Union School Districts
Campus Vista is part of the Osborn Elementary School District and Phoenix Union High School District. Schools in the Osborn School District include Encanto Elementary School, which covers preschool to third grade and earns a C-plus on Niche, and Clarendon Elementary School, which covers fourth to sixth grade and earns a C. Osborn Middle School is also C-rated. Metro Tech High School is B-rated and one of Niche’s top five magnet high schools in Arizona. All Metro Tech seniors must complete Career and Technical Education coursework in one of 19 programs, which include sports marketing, welding and fashion design.Phoenix College is one of the country’s first community colleges
Founded in 1920, Phoenix College is one of the longest-running community colleges in the country. The school offers over 150 degree and certificate programs, including two bachelor's degree programs in Information Technology and Public Safety. The campus also features the John Paul Theatre, which hosts community and student theatrical performances, and the Eric Fischl Gallery, which features exhibitions by students and professional artists. St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, Phoenix’s first hospital, is next to the college on Thomas Road.Valley Metro light rail and highway routes to downtown
Campus Vista is just 3 miles from downtown Phoenix and 7 miles from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Downtown is close enough that most residents walk, bike or drive on local roads to get there. Locals also frequently use Valley Metro’s light rail train, and the transit system has daily bus routes that stop at Phoenix College. To travel further within or outside of Phoenix, Interstates 10 and 17 are two of the city’s most prominent highways.Restaurants, shopping and nightlife along 7th Avenue
Long-running local eateries and shopping centers are concentrated between 7th and Central avenues. 5th Avenue Café on Thomas Road, next to Phoenix College, has been in the city since the 40s and offers all-day breakfast and customer-favorite chicken fried steak. Mi Patio Mexican Restaurant on 7th Avenue has served margaritas and chimichangas for over 40 years. Grocery stores like Sprouts Farmers Market and Safeway are all on 7th Avenue. The stretch of 7th Avenue between Indian School and Camelback roads comprises the Melrose district, best known for its nightlife, antique shopping, coffee shops and nightlife. Camelback Colonnade is 3 miles from the north end of Melrose, and this mall on Camelback Road has chain department stores and shops for clothing, technology and home goods.
