Smell that? It’s the appetizing mix of aromas one might take in with a stroll through Lower Lawrenceville, courtesy of recipes from around the world. Situated on the northeast side of Pittsburgh, Lower Lawrenceville is a neighborhood full of a diverse mix of restaurants, shops, galleries and more to enjoy. This is a section of the city where there’s always something to do. “This is one of the trendiest neighborhoods in the entire city,” says Jared Bundy, senior manager for content development with Visit Pittsburgh. “This is where you’re heading for boutique shopping and trendy restaurants. Selection always evolving
Not only does Lower Lawrenceville already have a wide range of amenities to pick from, but there are always new spots popping up, too, Bundy says. “It’s really just a happening place,” says Bundy, who has been with Visit Pittsburgh since 2022. Among the institutions here is Driftwood Oven, known for its sourdough crust pizza — in fact, it’s the only sourdough pizzeria and bakery in Pittsburgh. Eleventh Hour Brewing, a couple of blocks over, is also popular, Bundy says. The sour beers at Eleventh Hour are well-liked, which patrons can pair with a meal from one of the rotating cast of food trucks that stop by. Italian restaurant Senti, Spanish restaurant Morcilla and Japanese restaurant Umami are among the other options here.
After a meal, locals can peruse the murals at the Jeremy Raymer Outdoor Art Gallery or shop at Sam’s Vintage. Another draw to the neighborhood is The Clemente Museum, dedicated to the life and legacy of late Pittsburgh Pirates great Roberto Clemente. The museum’s exhibits are accessible via guided tours only, by purchasing tickets ahead of time.
