Polish Hill is a diverse neighborhood with arts and nightlife
The Polish Hill neighborhood was named for the Polish immigrants who settled in the area for steel industry jobs. The mostly residential area became a diverse neighborhood shaped by the locals’ creative interests. Now the gritty neighborhood has a unique culture: nightlife with a vibrant punk scene and a yearly arts festival.

Pierogies to Pinball: Polish Hill's Dining and Music Hotspots
“Polish Hill has some popular bars, one of which is Gooski’s, a well-known dive bar with music. I met my husband there,” Leitera says. The graffitied walls of Gooski’s lend it a distinctive grunge vibe, complete with a jukebox and live music from punk to metal bands. People often order pierogies to go with their drinks as they play pool or ping pong. At the Rock Room, you can also listen to punk bands. The bar has a dartboard, three pinball machines and taco night deals. At Kaibur Coffee, folks order excellent vegan meal options like breakfast sandwiches and donuts in a bright, exposed brick interior perfect for morning pick-me-ups.
