Plains Proud
Upon arrival in Plains, individuals might hear the expression, “Plains Proud” and begin to resonate with that testament. Plains residents care not only for each other but also about the appearance of the area, maintaining streetscapes and ensuring building facades and storefronts are visually appealing. “This is a neighborhood and community. People here don’t want to look out and just see industrial buildings,” says Hannah Burgess, founder of local honey farm, The Beekeeper’s Daughter. The well-kept appearance of the area can also be seen on the tree-hemmed Susquehanna Riverbanks. Small businesses dot the Plains map, including restaurants, markets and pharmacies. The township lies just north of Wilkes-Barre, giving it a small-town feel with quick access to city amenities and bigger department and grocery stores.
