Plains holds an annual Santa Parade during the holiday season. People park at our store and children stand out front with their candy bags, stay for the marching parade and watch the tree lighting,” Burgess says.
Getting around Plains and Wilkes-Barre
Residents that do not work locally can hop on nearby Interstate 81 to busier regions, such as Scranton, Hazleton and Wilkes-Barre. While the neighborhood has no rail system, the Luzerne County Transportation Authority (LCTA) provides public buses in Plains and surrounding areas. The Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport is about 11 miles north, but quick access to I-81 makes the commute relatively quick despite the distance.
