A golf community surrounded by nature and amenities

West Plano’s Hills at Prestonwood is a community built around a private country club and a golf course, but its appeal goes beyond fairways, putting greens and driving ranges. “It’s a really pretty area. The topography is hilly, and there are lots of trees,” says Carla Reeves, a broker for Eastoria Real Estate who has served the area for over 24 years. “You have to be a member to golf, but there are trails in the neighborhood and it’s really close to the nature preserve, so there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor living.” The 200-acre Arbor Hills Nature Preserve sits directly north of the Hills of Prestonwood, Lewisville Lake is to the west, and hiking trails and parks surround the area. While residents enjoy a suburban lifestyle, the neighborhood’s proximity to several major thoroughfares provides access to the rest of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. “It’s a great location,” says Reeves. “The Dallas North Tollway is right there, so you can get to Frisco and Dallas quickly.”

Upscale golf club, nature preserve and hiking trails

The emerald gem of the community, The Clubs of Prestonwood has two resort-style 18-hole golf courses available to its members, along with two pools, tennis and pickleball courts and restaurants. Offering tiered memberships, the club provides something for golf enthusiasts and those interested in getting to know their neighbors. “People come here to connect and make friends," says Dawn McKenzie, Director of Membership at the Clubs of Prestonwood. "It comes naturally because we're such a welcoming community. We host champagne socials, and our social membership includes fitness classes, pickleball and daily tennis clinics.” Indian Creek Park is at the center of the neighborhood and features a playground, soccer and baseball fields and picnic pavilions. Arbor Hills Nature Preserve has 9 miles of forested hiking and biking trails, as well as an observation deck. White Rock Trail Park, a linear greenbelt in neighboring Willow Bend, is filled with various sports fields and hiking trails around a lake. White Rock Trail meanders south through several Plano neighborhoods and parks. The 13-acre Steeplechase Park is 3 miles east and provides picnic space and a playground. Lewisville Lake, 7 miles away, is one of the most popular recreational spots, especially during summer. The lake has six marinas, and paddleboarding and fishing are common here. It’s also the site of various bass fishing tournaments, waterfront parks and the 2,600-acre Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area Nature Preserve.

Million-dollar homes along a golf course

The quiet, tree-lined community is filled with traditional two-story brick, ranch-style, Mediterranean-inspired and custom-built properties. Most homes were built in the early 2000s and range from the high $500,000s for a 2,000-square-foot, three-bedroom to over $1 million for a 5,000-square-foot, five-bedroom on the golf course. Lot sizes average around 10,000 square feet, but many higher-priced homes span more than a quarter-acre. Most dwellings have multi-car garages and spacious paved driveways. Many have in-ground pools. Million-dollar homes have custom upgrades like guest houses and resort-style backyards. The neighborhood offers a greenbelt with a multi-use path, ponds, tennis courts, a pool and a playground. The Hills Clubhouse, one of two in the community, is located on the Clubs of Prestonwood course. Homes stay on the market here for an average of 27 days, well below the national average of 44 days. Reeves adds that prospective homebuyers will need to act fast. “It’s still a strong market here,” Reeves says. “Things are selling within two weeks.”

Surrounded by shopping and dining options

Most shopping and dining are along Parker Road and Plano Parkway, but strip malls, shopping plazas and open-air malls surround the neighborhood. “Everything you would need is right around there,” Reeves says. In Windhaven Plaza, residents will find Maple Bacon Restaurant, a favorite for comfort foods, sweets and breakfast classics. Locals rave about its chicken and waffles and poutine. The shopping strip also has a Kroger, Academy Sports & Outdoors and Whiskey Cake Kitchen & Bar, one of the most popular eateries in the area. It’s known for its New American plates like a tri-tip French dip, candied bacon and a whiskey-infused sticky toffee cake. The Shops at Willow Bend is less than 3 miles from the neighborhood and has a variety of boutiques, restaurants and department stores. The contemporary Mexican Bar Company, located in “The District,” a restaurant area within The Shops at Willow Bend, has a diverse menu of street tacos, ceviche and chile rellenos. Costco is 3 miles south for more essentials. The Star, the headquarters of the Dallas Cowboys, is 6 miles north.
