Hughston’s residential streets tie homes to Dallas and shopping areas
Hughston is a central Plano community, about 25 miles from Dallas’s busy city center, with residential streets lined with mature trees with leaves that change colors with the seasons. Hughston’s subcommunities are close to various shops and restaurants in shopping centers on the community’s thoroughfares. “Plano, in general, is a favorite because of its proximity to both airports, life and work in Dallas and nightlife in Legacy or Allen,” says Amy Gibbs, a Realtor with Insight Realty Network with six years of experience. “[Hughston is] extremely suburban, established and diverse.”
Hughston’s quiet streets are lined with mature trees and a welcoming neighborhood feel.

Chisholm Trail, parks with playgrounds and the Jack Carter Pool
Horseshoe Park is in the neighborhood’s center and has two playgrounds, one of which is designed for toddlers. Nearby, non-motorized boats launch from the dock at Big Lake Park, where there is also a playground and a bike-friendly path looping around the water. With much of the area being flat, local flood risks are elevated as there is the potential that the lake and nearby streets could flood after heavy rain. In March 2025, construction began to increase the Chisholm Trail’s elevation at the Spring Creek Parkway underpass section to address potential risks. The project is expected to be completed in November 2025. The trail extends over five miles, connecting Harrington Park’s outdoor play area to Jack Carter Park’s dog park and sand volleyball area. Jack Carter Pool has a leisure swim area, a lazy river and a surf simulator, which are accessible with a Plano Parks and Recreation membership or the purchase of a day pass.
Hughston families gather at Horseshoe Park for play, sports, and outdoor fun.

In Custer Park, Burnt BBQ & Tacos combines Venezuelan and Texan cuisine. Chop House Gyro, a halal grill, is a few storefronts down from the barbecue and taco restaurant. Indopak Supermarket & Cafe is near additional restaurants, including Mozart Bakery & Cafe and Joe’s Pasta-N-Pizza.
