Those looking to move to the Spring Ridge community are shopping for schools as much as houses. Located in the city of Plano, public school students in this diverse, suburban enclave are zoned to attend some of the top-ranked schools in Texas. “There’s a large Indian and Asian population there,” says Kylin Jiang, a Realtor with Guo Realty, who sells houses in the area. “People who live there tend to be well educated. You’ll find a lot of engineers. They value education. They want their kids going to the best public schools.”

Less than 10 miles from downtown Plano, most of the homes here were built in the 1990s and share a common aesthetic. Driving through the neighborhoods, you’ll see contemporary designs with brick and stone facades, ranging in size from 1,800 to 4,000 square feet. They’re commonly situated on manicured lawns with established shrubbery and decorative crepe myrtle trees that provide pops of color in summer and fall. Many of the subdivisions boast community playgrounds and pools.

The average list price hovers around $625,000. However, cost is largely dependent on size. A mini mansion with a three-car garage may run as high as $800,000, while a smaller home offering 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms could be found in the low-$400,000s. “The homes sell quickly because of the schools,” Jiang says. “If they’re priced right, they’ll sell in less than a month.”

Part of the Plano Independent School District, public school students here may attend schools such as Skaggs elementary, Rice middle, Jasper high for ninth and 10th grade, and Plano Senior high for 11th and 12th grade. The elementary and both high schools score perfect overall grades of A-plus, according to Niche, while the middle school scores a stellar A. Home of the Wildcats, Plano Senior high’s football team has won seven state championships.

While Spring Ridge is largely residential, locals are less than a mile away from nationally recognized chains such as Walmart Neighborhood Market and Subway. And there are some nearby independently owned options to choose from as well. For eating out, try Rose Mediterranean Cuisine for authentic Persian fare, in a cozy space adorned with tapestries. Rusty Taco is your destination to nosh on street tacos and sip stiff margaritas. Dine with your friends or your dog on their covered outdoor patio.

Shopping and dining on a wider scale can be found less than 5 miles away at Stonebriar Centre mall, where you can snag a designer purse at Coach, pick up the latest best seller at Barnes & Noble, or grab lunch at The Cheesecake Factory.

Outdoor fun awaits at Russell Creek Park, which is located just north of the community. The 150 acre-park is the go-to spot to feed the ducks at the lake, shoot some hoops, or play a game of beach volleyball. Nearby Capstone Park offers a traditional playground for your kids to frolic and a paved trail that's popular among dog walkers, joggers, and bikers alike. For its suburban amenities and top-notch public schools, Spring Ridge makes the grade.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
