Walkable and diverse neighborhood with vibrant business district
One of Cincinnati’s many neighborhoods, Pleasant Ridge has received praise for its diversity, walkability and vibrant central business district. Its own little downtown area based around Ridge Avenue and Montgomery features buildings dating back to the early 20th century and is populated by a large cluster of eateries and unique shops that can be conveniently reached from many homes. Further bolstering the aesthetics are murals, like the Winds of Ridge work, that can be spotted between the worn exteriors. The architecture here is something that has helped attract people to this neighborhood. “I would say they have a lot of beautiful houses,” says Sharifah Tafari, executive director of the Caring Place of Cincinnati. The Caring Place is a food pantry that serves Pleasant Ridge, among a few communities in this part of the Cincinnati area. “People who live in Pleasant Ridge are really invested in the neighborhood,” Tafari says. “It is a very, energetic, welcoming and open-minded neighborhood. The people are very friendly, very helpful, quick to rally around anyone who’s in need. It’s a great neighborhood.” An example of that bond can be seen at the Community Happens Here on Saturdays when residents are invited there to grab free hot beverages during the winter time and cold drinks or popsicles during the summer. “People move here for the community feel and, historically, the appropriate cost and amenities for a young family,” says Pleasant Ridge Community Council member Bill Frost, who also emphasizes the diversity and walkability.

Tudors, Craftsmen and colonials
Pleasant Ridge is almost evenly split between homeowners and renters. Otherwise, homes – many of which date back to the 1920s - here can be found lined along tree-shaded blocks with narrow roads and sidewalks. Common styles here include Tudors, colonials, Craftsmen and Cape Cods. The single-story homes with Cape Cod and Craftsman features can go from around $230,000 to nearly $400,000. Some of the colonials can run between $350,000 and $450,000. Then, the Tudors can fall between $400,000 and $500,000.

Dine and shop along Ridge and Montgomery
The area in and around the central business district has a diverse mix of eateries and shops. There’s patty melts and fries at the local watering hole, the Gas Light Cafe. Then almost right where Montgomery and Ridge cross, there’s the Goodfellas Pizzeria and barrel-aged small batch craft brews at the Nine Giant Brewpub & Fermentorium. But this area is not limited to just to dining and drinking. Graphic novels, trading cards, movie posters and toys can be found at the Queen City Comic & Card Company. Everybody’s Records, a local landmark since the 1970s, is the place to go for avid collectors of vintage media like vinyl records and cassette tapes. Other shopping needs can be met by traveling farther south to the Meijer or Target at the Oakley Station, a modern shopping center with many chain tenants.

The Pleasant Ridge Community Center
Located right along Ridge Avenue south of the downtown and within Pleasant Ridge Park is the Pleasant Ridge Community Center. The many amenities there include a fitness center, several sports fields, a deep pool, diving board and spaces for meetings. Another local destination is the Lindner Park Nature Preserve, once home to and named after the founders of the United Dairy Farmers. This natural area contains a number of abandoned structures surrounded by vegetation. Among the fixtures that can be seen while on the walking trails are an abandoned pool, an old seed store sign, an ice house and turtle pond.
