Carver Village
Smaller mid-century homes and waterfront condos
Single-family homes in Carver Village tend to be smaller ranch-style homes and bungalows, built primarily between the 1950s and the 1980s. Prices range from $250,000 to $550,000. Condos and townhouses are concentrated near the lake and cost $200,000-$475,000, with $100-$350 monthly HOA fees. "It's an older area of Pompano Beach," says Joseph Miranda, broker/owner of Miranda Executive Realty. "There's still affordable sale prices compared to a lot of Pompano, and you're close enough to the beach, about 20 minutes. It's turning into a really great area."Train ride up to West Palm Beach or down to the airport
The Tri-Rail transit system, which goes from Miami Airport to West Palm Beach, stops in Carver Village. Tri-Rail offers discounted rides to the station through Uber and other taxi and rideshare services. The area is bordered by Florida’s Turnpike to the west and Interstate 95 to the east. "The location between 95 and the turnpike is excellent," says Marcia Molina, a realtor with JC Realty. "Butterfly World is right there. It's a great place to go if you have kids."Festival Marketplace: more than just a flea market
The gathering place for much of the neighborhood is the Festival Marketplace. Built in 1986 as the Pompano Outlet Mall, the venue is home to hundreds of booths and shops and spans more than a quarter-mile. Events like car shows, flea markets and holiday parties are held here. Residents can do the bulk of their grocery shopping at Costco or nearby Walmart. Latin American and Caribbean food options are available at several locations, including Cuban Cafe, a breakfast and lunch spot with a bilingual menu and Unique Park Restaurant, a Haitian restaurant offering baked goods.Nearby parks and historic Westview Community Cemetery
While there are no public parks in the neighborhood, Weaver Community Park and Mitchell Moore Park are on the other side of Interstate 95. Mitchell Moore Park, named after two Black civic activists, houses the Houston/Sworn Aquatic Center and a football field. Founded during segregation, the historically Black Westview Community Cemetery is in the center of the neighborhood and is lined with white cement vaults that cover each plot. “Good Times” actress Esther Rolle, as well as many members of her family, is buried here.Blanche Ely High School and its one-of-a-kind programs
Students who live here can attend Charles Drew Elementary School for pre-K through fifth grade, Crystal Lake Middle, and Blanche Ely High, all of which have C-plus ratings on Niche. Blanche Ely High School, named after a former principal and social activist, offers nursing and engineering magnet programs; students who complete the practical nursing program — the only one in a comprehensive high school in Florida — qualify to take the Florida State Board of Nursing licensing exam to become licensed practical nurses.Detention centers and Monarch Hill Landfill in the area
The Paul Rein Detention Center and the Joseph V. Conte Facility are in Carver Village. The Monarch Hill Landfill, also called the Monarch Hill Renewable Energy Park, is located here on the other end of the neighborhood. Residents have reported odors coming from the landfill at times. "I lived near there for 14 years," Molina says. "Yes, the landfill is there and the industrial area is there, but it never bothered me."
