Briarwood Active 55+ resort, formerly known as Briarwood Mobile Estates, is a manufactured home community offering a resort lifestyle filled with recreation and lots of activities. The community has two clubhouses, heated pools, a spa, a fully equipped fitness center, a barbecue area, a lake for fishing, a shuffleboard court and pathways for walking or biking. Inside the clubhouse, there is a library with computers and Wi-Fi, billiards, a gourmet kitchen and an activities director with a year-round calendar full of events. "The entire area has grown exponentially in the last few years," says Tim Harper, co-owner and broker with Palm & Pine Realty, who's been representing the community for almost 10 years.

Single-and-double-wide mobile homes
Briarwood has both new and remodeled pre-owned homes on 332 sites. Prices range from $49,900 to $199,900, according to Trudy Berg, community manager. Single- and double-wide manufactured homes comprise the neighborhood. Narrow gridded streets, occasionally dotted with palm trees, have sidewalks. Most of the homes have peaked roofs and lap siding, providing an aesthetic appeal and designed to make life simpler. Florida rooms are a common feature here. Additionally, the community is conveniently located just 0.6 miles from nearby bodies of water, which makes for stunning views.

Lots of nearby eateries
The manufactured home park offers residents close proximity to great shopping, dining and entertainment. The Pavilion at Port Orange, a 4-mile drive on local streets, is an open-air shopping mall with top chain stores and eateries. "The Pavilion is a nice vision added two years ago in 2020," Harper says. Regal movie theaters is also nearby. For those who enjoy dining out, the area has a range of restaurants, including Mexican, Italian and Chinese eateries, as well as the local favorite Big J's Steak & Seafood Restaurant. Local hot spots include Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant and Fysh Bar and Grill, where patrons are served cuisine from four separate kitchens: American, Japanese, Italian and seafood. They also have live music. Last Resort Bar on South Ridgewood Avenue is famous for its role as the last place where Aileen Wuornos sipped a cold beer. Since then, it has been featured in the movie "Monster," a retelling of her story. Now, Wuornos memorabilia decorate the bar, from the walls to the hot sauce bottles.

Spacious parks and a botanical garden
Locals can take their families to Spruce Creek Recreational Park, which hosts the city's softball and baseball programs. There are tennis courts, softball fields and a play area. Dog owners can bring their furry companions to Seemor Memorial Dog Park, where there are two separate areas for small and large dogs. Dunlawton Sugar Mill Botanical Gardens is a 3-mile drive via backroads and offers visitors an opportunity to see a variety of gardens and plant collections, including camellias, azaleas, magnolias, ivies, native plants, palms, succulents and more. The facility also has some unique features, including a children's garden near the full-size stone dinosaurs, a human sundial and an herb garden shaped like Florida. There are also various entertainment options in the area, including the Daytona International Speedway, where visitors can watch live NASCAR races, and the Jackie Robinson Ballpark, home to several minor league baseball teams.
