Just a few miles west of the St. Lucie River is the Floresta Gardens neighborhood. The neighborhood’s location makes it convenient for residents to get to any of the amenities and attractions throughout the city. “Floresta Gardens has easy access to Crosstown Parkway, which gets you to downtown in just a few minutes and it also connects with Interstate 95 nearby,” says local realtor and area native Tiffany Graves. Residents here are 5 miles from the river, 10 miles from the shopping and dining options at Tradition and 15 miles from the beach. And what’s more, they get it all for price points that are lower than surrounding areas.

Fun in the Florida sun

Floresta Gardens is a haven for those who love to spend time in the Florida sunshine. Because it is so close to the river, residents can often be found enjoying the natural surroundings afforded by the neighborhood’s convenient location. “The St. Lucie River is absolutely beautiful,” says Graves. “There are live oaks that hang over the water, and there are manatees and all types of birds. Herons, spoonbills and egrets all live in the area.” Hiking trails parallel the river, making for superb birdwatching, and the St. Lucie River offers superb fishing.

Kiwanis Park, located in the northeastern corner of the neighborhood, is another outdoor venue in the neighborhood. The dog-friendly park offers visitors a playground, picnic tables and a barbecue grill. Near Kiwanis Park is the United States Submarine Veterans Park, where visitors will find fitness equipment that includes stationary bikes and ellipticals, as well as a lake encircled by a walking path. Whitmore Park is another local green space, great for playing on the playground equipment, some quiet fishing or just some scenic waterfront views. Just take care to watch out for alligators, which are known to inhabit the pond at the park.

Floresta Gardens is also near one of the city’s premier event venues. "The MIDFLORIDA Event Center is right on U.S. 1, which is very close by," says Graves. “They host all kinds of festivals and events throughout the year. Carnivals, Italian nights, seafood nights, food trucks — they do something for every holiday, too. Fourth of July and New Year's always have big turnouts.” Featuring an outdoor amphitheater, festival grounds and a gymnasium, the MIDFLORIDA Event Center is less than 5 miles from the neighborhood.

One-stop shopping and THE place to eat

While Floresta Gardens is close to many of Port St. Lucie's most popular hubs, it is predominantly a residential area. The Shoppes of St. Lucie West and Town Center at Lucie West shopping centers are about 5 miles west, where shoppers can take care of all of their daily essentials. The area is home to Publix, Walmart Supercenter, Home Depot and Lowes, so residents can get just about everything they might need in a single trip. Shoppers will also find stores like Petco, Ross, Home Goods and Academy Sports + Outdoors nearby. “Port St. Lucie, in general, has a small-town feel. But at the same time, everything you need from a big-city perspective is easy to get to,” says Graves.

There are also plenty of fast food available nearby, as well as some casual cafes. But the latest dining hotspot in the area is about 4 miles north on U.S. 1. “Right now, THE spot in town is Casa Amigos,” says Graves. “Everyone loves it.” Casa Amigos Authentic Mexican Restaurant’s popularity is due in no small part to its extensive margarita menu, not to mention traditional Mexican cuisine ranging from street tacos and elotes (grilled Mexican street corn) to hearty enchiladas and fajitas.
