"It's one of the last few areas that are left to be developed in the county."
Yet they are also centered in the heart of town, with all the perks of the sixth-largest city in Florida. Locals retreat to the peace and tranquility of the Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens, a plant sanctuary and community meeting place for social clubs, health and wellness classes and events. Wedged between the Florida Turnpike and U.S. 1, also known as Federal Highway, Lyngate is well connected to major cities such as West Palm Beach to the south and Orlando to the north, and 10 miles from the beach.
Lyngate sits along the St Lucie River, enjoying the best outdoor activities of any neighborhood.

Florida homes with pools and attached garages
Lyngate has some condominiums on the east side, which can range from $190,000 to about $230,000 for two bedrooms. The neighborhood contains a mix of open neighborhoods as well as gated and ungated subdivisions with community amenities such as clubhouses and tennis courts. Prices range between $200,000 and $775,000 for two- to-four bedroom properties. Private pools and attached garages are common throughout that range. Many houses were built in the '70s and '80s with typical Florida features such as textured stucco walls.
There are a great deal of non-HOA residential areas in Lyngate.

Native Florida foliage at Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens
Lyngate's parks offer waterfront views, fishing, exercise and a look at native flora and fauna. Locals stroll the paved paths at Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens to explore the tropical plant life, including a butterfly garden, native plant garden and orchid room. Established in 1979, Lyngate Park is another well-loved community feature. It's an ideal spot for sports, with a basketball and softball field and courts for volleyball, tennis, racquetball and basketball.
Locals can enjoy river views from the boardwalk, which stretches about 1,000 feet from Tom Hooper Park to Veterans Park at Rivergate. The city recently built a southern segment that will connect to the existing boardwalk. It's part of a master plan to improve the Port District along the river, including an event lawn and waterfront restaurant. "That's going to be a big draw," James says.

Events through the city and the Botanical Gardens
Besides strolling the gardens, locals visit the Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens for its annual special events. Artists showcase their carefully crafted 2D and 3D works, jewelry and crafts at the Art Show in the Gardens. Children can come dressed up and stroll through the Halloween forest at the "Bootanical" event. It also hosts weekly fitness classes, including yoga and Tai Chi.
Locals also participate in seasonal events through the city, many of which occur just east of the neighborhood at the MidFlorida Credit Union Event Center. Locals celebrate St. Patrick's Day with traditional food, beer, music and dancing. The event center shines bright at the Festival of Lights in the winter.
Healthcare is close by
Healthcare is accessible at HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital, located right next to the neighborhood. Palm Beach International Airport is 53 miles south via the Turnpike with nonstop service to many destinations worldwide. Area Regional Transit buses stop along Southeast Port St. Lucie Boulevard and Federal near the hospital, shopping centers and the Botanical Gardens.
Shops along Federal Highway
Lyngate residents are near many shops, restaurants and services along South Federal Highway. Locals refresh their wardrobes at Bealls, exercise at Planet Fitness or have a hands-on dinner at Yum Yum Hot Pot, where they can make their own soup using fresh ingredients. Rivergate Plaza has a Publix for grocery shopping in the southwest corner of the neighborhood.
Nearby, Babalu's Cuban Café is a fan-favorite restaurant with a bar and chef's specials such as ropa vieja and mahi-mahi. A Walmart and a Sam's Club are located just south of the neighborhood on Federal for big-box shopping. Treasure Coast Square is a large indoor mall about four miles south of the neighborhood with familiar retailers, department stores, a movie theater and a food court.
It's tough to find good Cuban food this far from Miami, but Babalu's Cuban Cafe has you covered.
