Convenience is key in west Port St. Lucie neighborhood
"Convenience" is the word for Tradition, Florida. This master-planned, mixed-used neighborhood on Port St. Lucie's west side contains 55-plus neighborhoods, multi-generational neighborhoods and all the basics, including shops, restaurants, parks, schools and festivities. "Convenience is everything here," says Don Minch, Sales Associate with Palm Beach Luxury Homes, and a Tradition resident of 16 years. "Where we live, it's very quiet but we can get to Publix in 5 minutes, to the doctor in 10 minutes and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. You don't have to leave Tradition for much."
Tradition Square is the community's retail and event center. "It has music, food trucks -- there's something going on pretty much every weekend on the square," Minch says. Established in 2003, Tradition's oldest infrastructure dates back only 20 years. Even newer construction is available as the community continues to expand. Many retirees choose to settle here, and they can live an active lifestyle with community fitness classes and ample outdoor areas. Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital is conveniently located just south of the town center with an extensive range of services, including emergency care.

Walkable neighborhoods with community pools and more
Tradition contains a mixture of housing styles for different preferences, including single-family homes, townhouses and an increasing number of condominiums. Single-family homes start at around $300,000 for two- and three-bedroom properties around 1,500 square feet. Prices creep into the $800,000s for large square footage, lakefront views and luxurious amenities such as gourmet kitchens and saltwater pools.
Whatever the size, many homes come with screened-in pools, large driveways and two-car attached garages. They often have Mediterranean features such as red-tiled roofs. Residents also enjoy shared amenities such as community clubhouses, libraries and pools. Many neighborhoods are tediously landscaped and highly walkable with sidewalks set back a few feet from the street.

Take an electric bike down Tradition Trail
Tradition residents enjoy the outdoors at 300 acres of parks, ponds and conservation areas. Tradition's green spaces are connected by the Tradition Trail, a wide pedestrian path for walking, jogging or biking through shaded and open spaces. It's easy to get low-impact exercise with the new electric bike share system, with pickup stations planted along the trail.
Woodland Trails is an aptly-named park with a walking trail weaving through slash pines, shaded picnic tables and a playground for the kids and grandkids. Two new parks are in the works: Western Grove, which will have baseball, softball and soccer fields, and Southern Grove, which will have an outdoor amphitheater for festivals and special events.
Woodland Trail Park has a soccer field to practice on and let children run about near Tradition.

Career and technical programs at West Centennial High
Schools are another bragging right for the community of Tradition. Students earn a quality education as part of St. Lucie Public Schools, which earns a B-minus from Niche. Tradition itself has preschools, two charter K-8 schools and a charter high school, although parents can pick their preference of schools in the red zone. Renaissance Charter School of St. Lucie, a tuition-free K-8 school, and St. Lucie West Centennial High both earn a B. The latter offers several career and technical programs such as Culinary Arts.

Dinner on the patio at Pastaio
Residents can take their time at Tradition Square by getting a manicure or haircut, stopping for coffee, shopping for groceries at Publix, grabbing lunch or enjoying views of the water. Tradition Square is the place for daily, weekly and annual events. Locals stay active with yoga for adults and children, Tai Chi and a running club. The square also hosts annual festivals such as the Taste of Italy Festival, a three-day event with entertainment, festival rides and cooking demonstrations.
Self-driving buses keep Tradition in motion
Tradition is embracing technology through Tradition in Motion, an autonomous shuttle program connecting residents to key places in tradition. It will soon add more shuttles and routes.
Located right next to Interstate 95, Tradition is well connected to major cities to the north and south. West Palm Beach is about 51 miles south. There, locals access Palm Beach International Airport, with a long list of nonstop flights around the U.S. and abroad.
Tradition residents have easy access to the i95, allowing residents easy travel north or south.
Tradition in Motion is an autonomous bus system offering free rides to locals.
