Nature surrounds Kala Point, from wooded streets to Port Townsend Bay
Kala Point’s quiet residential streets are woven into thick forests on Port Townsend Bay. “It’s a gated community, so they have fairly strict covenants, conditions and restrictions there, but it does keep the neighborhood looking nice,” says Terry Smith, a RE/MAX First Inc. broker with over 24 years of experience. Behind the gate is an expansive trail network, a sandy beach and scenic mountain views. Many homes are full-time residences, and some are vacation rentals. Residents and guests must drive to other areas like Port Hadlock-Irondale to the south and Port Townsend farther north, since Kala Point does not have a commercial area with restaurants and shops.
Sports courts, sandy beach and trails through the wilderness
Kala Point Beach has nearly 2 miles of sandy shoreline, a boat dock and a playground. Sports facilities, including pickleball and tennis courts, are near the neighborhood’s clubhouse. Inside is a recreation room with exercise equipment, and the outside features a pool and hot tub. Over 7 miles of trails run through the community’s wooded areas, some leading to Fort Townsend Historical State Park. Plaques explain the significance of structures on the state park’s hiking trails, which total over 6 miles.
Nearby areas with shops and waterfront dining options
The Port Hadlock-Irondale area has a QFC supermarket and Ajax Cafe, a restaurant with craft cocktails and a waterfront patio. Port Townsend’s Water Street is a walkable commercial district with locally owned boutiques, gift shops and restaurants. Waterfront Pizza sells pies by the slice and whole. Nearby, Silverwater Cafe serves Northwest Mediterranean cuisine in its two-story dining room with exposed brick walls and upper stained-glass windows.
Contemporary homes, condos and timeshares on wooded lots
The neighborhood consists of over 600 units, including single-family homes and condos. Contemporary and ranch-style homes are common. They share a similar price range of about $490,000 to $850,000. “Many lots are wooded, about third-acre lots, some larger or smaller,” Smith says. “Flooding is not a concern because the beach is down the hill.” Condos are typically painted neutral colors, and they are priced between nearly $420,000 and $750,000. Annual assessments of over $1,200 fund community maintenance. Prices change yearly and are the same for all owned properties. Kala Point Village is a subcommunity with 38 timeshare condos and townhouses with deeds for four weeks.
The CAP Index Crime Score in Kala Point is 1 out of 10, the lowest possible; meanwhile, the national average is 4.
Highways to more commercialized areas, ferries and airport access

Port Townsend High School receives a B-plus and offers juniors and seniors the chance to enroll in the Port Townsend Maritime Academy, a skills center with units on navigation and safety at sea.
