Waterfront Post Falls neighborhood with easy access to the city

South Shore is a quiet Post Falls neighborhood that offers everything people love about the Coeur d’Alene region. “It’s the best of both worlds. You get to be on the river, have water access, and you’re five minutes from town,” says Shari Knudtsen, a Realtor with Windermere/Coeur d’Alene Realty. “It’s absolutely incredible. It’s not a gated neighborhood, but it’s pretty private.” With the Spokane River to the north and the cities of Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene nearby, residents can enjoy a day of swimming, boating or fishing before heading into town for dinner at one of many local restaurants.

Diving into fun in South Shore

South Shore has many waterfront homes with private docks that offer easy access to the water. Those without water access can store their boats at the nearby Marina 33. Greensferry Park is a neighborhood park with a swimming area, picnic tables and grills. Q’emiln Park is a 78.5-acre green space west of the neighborhood with a large swimming beach that stays busy throughout the summer. The park also has a public boat launch. Non-water activities at the park include horseshoe pits, volleyball courts and cliffs for rock climbing. The park is also an entrance to the Post Falls Community Forest, a large natural area with hiking trails and river access for fishing and kayaking. Homeowners with boats can cruise east along the Spokane River until they come into Lake Coeur d’Alene, one of the largest lakes in North Idaho. The vast freshwater lake is full of boats in the summertime, and waterskiing and wakeboarding are among the popular activities.

Riverfront luxury and suburban charm in South Shore

Most of the homes along the water in South Shore are mountain Craftsman houses, often with wooden exteriors and large decks that offer a spot to sit and enjoy the view of the river. The area has a rural feel, with dense pine trees providing privacy between the homes. Riverfront properties are often between half an acre and an acre. These homes typically cost between $1.5 million and $2.5 million. The neighborhood’s east side feels more suburban, with fewer trees and houses that are closer together. These properties typically have ranch-style and split-level homes on quarter-acre lots. Houses here can cost between $500,000 and $800,000.

Riverview Drive gives South Shore residents an easy route across the Spokane River to the commercial center of Post Falls. “In Post Falls, there’s the famous bowling alley that’s been there for a long time that has excellent food. They’re known for their pizza, and it’s really good,” Knudtsen says. “The White House Grill is there. That’s Greek food, and it’s a fancier place.” River City Lanes is on Seltice Way, while the Greek column-adorned White House Grill is on North Spokane Street. Other options in the city include the bar food and relaxed atmosphere at Sawmill Grille & Spirits or the house-brewed beer at Post Falls Brewing Company. Groceries are available at Yoke’s Fresh Market on Seltice Way, and there is a Walmart on Mullan Avenue for other household items. Downtown Coeur d’Alene is about 8 miles east of the neighborhood and is home to over 100 local shops and restaurants.
