Originally a tiny community of tradespeople and subsistence farmers, the village of Powell wouldn't begin growing into a full-fledged city until Columbus' population boom in the 1980s. Since then, the formerly rural town has reshaped itself into one of the more exclusive communities in central Ohio, with sprawling homes and an array of shopping options. As one of the latest Columbus satellite suburbs, the local culture still has a lot of growth ahead of it, fed by new construction, highly ranked schools and a population that tends to put down roots. "It's definitely a spot for second-time house buyers," says John Kohlhepp, a Realtor with Keller Williams Capital Partners. "Especially families—when they're looking to settle down long-term."
