The streets of Prairie Village are lined with mature trees that canopy over sidewalks that thread throughout the city. Lawns are manicured, and houses are well-maintained. Historically, Prairie Village is mostly known for its Cape Cod-style homes built around the post-World War II era. $400,000 gets you a four-bedroom, two-bath Cape Cod originally built in the 1950s. Since the 2010s, the city has seen plenty of newer construction. These homes typically have four to five bedrooms and baths. Visiting Meadowbrook Park

For a bit of time outdoors, residents can visit Meadowbrook Park is 80 acres of green space. What was once a 136-acre country club and golf course is now a place for residents to exercise and enjoy the outdoors. The Treeline Adventure destination playground features climbing ropes, swings, slides, balancing structures and other play structures that challenge kids. The park also features eight pickleball courts for quick competitive games and paved trails for walking and jogging. With a county fishing permit and state fishing license, locals can fish in one of the park’s three lakes to catch bluegill, largemouth bass and channel catfish. The Grand Pavilion, which can hold 120 people, is designed for cookouts and large gatherings. Enjoy the outdoor living room, charcoal grilling island and fire pit.

In addition to Meadowbrook Park, residents can also visit Harmon Park. The park boasts a pool, playground and ten tennis courts. The Harmon Skate Park was originally built in the 2000s but was remodeled in the 2020s. The skate park features a skate bowl, metal railings and a stage area. In September, residents gather in Harmon Park for the Prairie Jazz Festival. Locals enjoy a day of smooth sounds from several jazz musicians from Kansas City and dinner and dessert from local vendors

Retail at Shops of Prairie Village

The Shops of Prairie Village is a popular destination for dining out and shopping. Story is an upscale restaurant that is known for their unique American cuisine. Order their Braised Beef Short Ribs, made with potato gnocchi, green beans, bacon and onion rings. For dessert, choose the Brownie a la Mode, which is vanilla ice cream with chocolate ganache and candied walnuts. The Better Cheddar is where locals can find a carefully curated selection of cheeses from the US and beyond. The Better Cheddar is also known for their cocktail ingredients, chocolates, olive oil and other unique ingredients. For grocery shopping, residents can drive to the Hy-Vee Grocery Store on State Line Road.

VillageFest is a popular event

In July, residents come together for the Fourth of July celebration at Prairie Village. Called VillageFest, neighbors marvel at the fireworks display and participate in a pie-baking contest and other fun summer activities. In Prairie Village, community is front and center.
