Neighborhood with rural and suburban blend
With many homes built after the turn of the 21st century, Southpointe is one of Pueblo’s newest neighborhoods. Its somewhat isolated location on the southwest side of town, open fields and new houses give it the feel of a suburban neighborhood with a country backdrop. “There’s a house that was built in 1997; they’re still building out there. So, over 25 years, they’ve been working on this area,” says Charles Valentish, realtor at HomeSmart Preferred Realty and Pueblo native. “It’s pricier than other neighborhoods.” Walkable and quiet suburban streets line the north side of Southpointe, and dirt roads and open land form the area south of the neighborhood. Retail and restaurants are 2 miles away.

Homes developed in the 21st century
Buyers can spot the neighborhood’s phases of development as they drive from west to east. Split levels and ranchers built in the early 2000s sit west of Hollywood Drive, along roadways shaded by tall trees. Prices range from $265,000 to $406,000. Neighbors walking along paved sidewalks will see parked cars in driveways and garages. “All day long, you got people with dogs and bike rides,” Valentish says. Homes built after 2020 make up the southeastern end of the neighborhood. The area resembles a master-planned community where ranch homes have uniform landscaping, brick exteriors and sizing. Prices range from $350,000 to $485,000.

Two neighborhood pocket parks with similar amenities
Southpointe has several pocket parks, including Pronghorn Park, which includes a swing set, a basketball court and green space. Settlers Village Park is less than a half-mile walk for those residents east of Hollywood Drive. Kids can play on the playground or run around the open fields. Picnic tables are also available seating options. Two miles away is the 270-acre Lake Minnequa Veterans Memorial Park. The park has several soccer fields, basketball courts and a playground. Bikers and hikers can circle Lake Minnequa on the 2.5-mile trails.

Two miles travel to local shopping and dining
Southpointe is a bedroom community for the rest of Pueblo, so it doesn’t have any stores or restaurants. Less than 3 miles away, however, are big-box stores like Walmart Supercenter and fast-food restaurants at the corner of Northern Avenue and Pueblo Boulevard. Aloha Hawaiian BBQ is a casual spot serving traditional Hawaiian dishes like chicken katsu and poke bowls. The nearby Bessemer neighborhood has tons of restaurants including Gus’ Tavern. A nearly 100-year-old Pueblo institution known for its schooner beer glasses, laid-back vibes and its Dutch Lunch -- an assortment of cold cuts, cheese and toppings. “When you live in the Southside of Pueblo, we are attracted to these neighborhood mom-and-pops, where the owners live next door,” Valentish says. Jorge’s Sombrero, down the road from Gus’, is known for its margaritas. For groceries, Walmart Neighborhood Market is off South Prairie Avenue.

Route 45 for main travel
There is no public transportation in Southpointe. Drivers can travel north to Pueblo Boulevard or Highway 45, which goes north and southeast around the city. “You get from one side of Pueblo to another with 10 to 15 minutes,” Valentish says. “The traffic doesn’t compare to Colorado Springs or inner-city Denver. In Pueblo, you get rush hour for about 15 minutes.” Highway 45 eventually picks up Interstate 25, the main interstate for the mountain region, reaching Denver in 119 miles and Colorado Springs in 50 miles.
