Cape Cods and co-op buildings
“People enjoy the quietness, the atmosphere and it’s less congested,” says Lian Joyce Sun, an associate broker with Keller Williams Realty Landmark who lives in nearby Great Neck and has worked in the area for 10 years. Single-family houses in Glen Oaks have traditionally been Cape Cod and ranch houses, though many have been converted, with Capes turning into colonials. “People dome the Capes on the second floor to make a flat roof,” Sun says. A Cape Cod or colonial home runs $800,000 to $1.5 million. A unit in a midcentury brick co-op costs between $350,000 and $450,000, and a unit in the North Shore Towers co-op building can fetch between $250,000 and $600,000.Baseball fields at the Glen Oaks Oval

Castlewood Playground also includes play structures and an outdoor pool that opens during the summer months. A large swath of land in the area is dedicated to the Queens County Farm Museum, which includes a large apiary and fields that grow fruits, vegetables and other crops.College-level courses at Martin Van Buren High School

Martin Van Buren High School gets a B and offers college-level courses through the City University of New York, with concentrations in health science, law and engineering.Annual events at the Queens County Farm Museum
In September, the annual Queens County Fair is held at the Queens County Farm Museum and includes live music, carnival rides, games, hayrides and a corn maze. The Farm Museum also hosts the Apple Blossom Children’s Carnival in April.Buses and major highway access
Many residents own cars, and the neighborhood gives easy access to the Long Island Expressway and Grand Central Parkway. There is no subway stop in the neighborhood, but buses offer connection to the E and F trains, and to the Long Island Railroad, which is accessible via the Little Neck station, about three miles away. Multiple hospitals can be found in the neighborhood, including the Long Island Jewish Medical Center and the Cohen Children's Medical Center. John F. Kennedy International Airport is also less than 10 miles south.Restaurants on Union Turnpike, Glen Oaks Shopping Center
A few notable restaurants can be found on Union Turnpike, including Galo Tavern 18 with New American dishes. Luigi’s is a neighborhood favorite, known for wood-fired pizzas and Italian fare.
