Small, diverse community near larger amenities
Jamaica Hills is a small residential pocket of Queens surrounding Captain Tilly Park, a 9-acre woodland with Goose Pond at its center. The neighborhood is just nine miles east of Manhattan, with the Grand Central Parkway to the north and neighboring Briarwood, Jamaica Estates and Jamaica Center.
Sybil’s Hillside Bakery and Restaurant is a prominent West Indian spot for locals and the Guyanese diaspora, while businesses along Hillside Avenue serve the Bangladeshi community. Chinese, South American, Indian and Pakistani businesses also reflect the area’s melting pot mix, along with the St. Demetrios' Greek Orthodox Church and Jamaica Muslim Center.
“The neighborhood’s never been this diverse,” says Chatter Singh, a real estate agent with Keller Williams Liberty who grew up just around the corner from Jamaica Hills.
St. John's University in nearby Hillside also attracts many to Jamaica Hills, along with a convenient stop on the F line.

Single-family homes with small yards
Quiet, tree-lined streets are mostly populated with well-maintained one- and two-family detached homes, plus a smaller number of pre-and-post-war co-op buildings. Homebuyers can find single-family Tudor-style homes with one-car garages for $1.5 million at the higher end. Semi-detached brick homes near Grand Central Parkway start around $700,000, while fully detached homes start around $800,000. Homes here are smaller than neighboring Jamaica Estates.
Just below Captain Tilly Park, a number of postwar co-op buildings offer one-bedroom units for $200,000. The median is $686,000.
As an FYI, a rezoning law allows any type of housing, including attached row houses, to replace detached single-family homes.

Along nearby Parsons Boulevard, the community enjoys vegan fare at Panorama of My Silence-Heart Café, a tranquil space run by meditation students of the late Sri Chinmoy, and orders Chinese food from Fatima’s Halal Kitchen.
Grocers include CTown and locally owned Mannan Supermarket for South Asian supplies. Additional shopping is just next door in Jamaica Center, where residents can take advantage of Target and Home Depot.

Well-regarded public-school options
P.S. 131 Abigail Adams holds a B rating on Niche and serves kindergarten through fifth grade, where designated teachers work with English Language Learners. MS 216 George J. Ryan is a popular district option in nearby Fresh Meadows, an A-rated school for grades six through eight and a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School. Likewise, many students finish their schooling at Francis Lewis High School, also in Fresh Meadows. It’s considered on the most selective high schools in NYC with an A rating and students from more than 55 countries. The school’s robotics program starts in ninth grade and is among the most desirable.
Francis Lewis High School is ranked #623 in the national rankings.

Central green space surrounding a pond
Captain Tilly Park is the heart of this Queens neighborhood, where locals take their kids to the playground, stroll along its path and try to spot turtles in the pond. To the north, Joseph Austin Playground provides another option where kids can play, with older kids heading to the adjacent soccer and baseball fields.
Two blocks south in Jamaica proper, the expansive Bauhaus-style Queens Public Library meets the needs of various language speakers, while also offering adult ESL classes. Locals can also learn about henna art and Haitian culture.

Proximity to subway, airport and regional lines
The local F train runs along Hillside Avenue with a stop at 169th Street, while the E, J and Z lines are accessible a few blocks south in Jamaica Center. It’s also possible to catch the AirTrain to JFK Airport from Jamaica Station and there’s also a Long Island Rail Road station at Sutphin Boulevard and Archer Avenue.
Numerous buses serve Jamaica Hills and drivers have easy access to the Grand Central Parkway that runs along the northern edge.
The AirTrain travels to the Jamaica LIRR Station from JFK every 5 to 10 minutes.

whenever I come from work, approximately 2 minutes from my house, Folks are hanging out in front of the house that seems like two house where a few units exist. I can smell so much of marihuana. Also, When I get off from subway, People are hanging out on the corner and street, which seems unpleasant as well
