Queens community near the Long Island Expressway
Pomonok is named for the Algonquin Indian word used to describe the region. Today, this 2-square-mile neighborhood sits just south of the Long Island Expressway, sandwiched between two more affluent neighborhoods, Queensboro Hill and Kew Gardens Hills. But proximity means Pomonok residents may enjoy some of the amenities of these two neighborhoods while also enjoying the relatively lower prices of Pomonok. Chatter Singh, a local licensed real estate salesperson with Keller Williams Liberty says, “Each neighborhood in Queens impacts the next.”

Condos, townhomes and single-family homes with historic charm
“There are a lot of working families,” says Singh of this part of Queens. “There are owner-occupied residences and owners renting. It’s changed a lot in regards to development.” High-rise condominiums built within the last decade are offering two-bedroom, two-bath units for just over $600,000 with very low homeowners association fees. Plain postwar townhomes with four bedrooms can be found for under $1 million. There are also humble Cape Cods with cheerily painted siding on small lots. A two-bedroom was recently listed for $840,000. There is some lovely prewar architecture here. A historic three-bedroom colonial revival with an attractive façade of brick and stone is on the market for $1.1 million.
