Queensboro Hill features single-family homes near parks, interstates

Though Queensboro Hill is part of Flushing, parks and interstates separate the community from its fellow Flushing neighborhoods. That means Queensboro Hill has less access to the dense shopping and dining districts and train stations that define nearby neighborhoods. At the same time, residents live alongside hundreds of acres of parks and an interstate route to Manhattan. The latter perk fits nicely with the character of Queensboro Hill, where rows of single-family homes stretch down blocks and cars line curbs and fill driveways.

Homes and townhouses with parking

Most people live in single-family homes and townhouses, thousands of which pack into the neighborhood’s city blocks. Homes don’t come with much of a yard. Front yards are usually restricted to a compact square of grass or a garden. Out back, there may be a small fenced-in backyard or a detached garage. Houses usually have parking, from alley driveways to basement garages. Many residents park on the street as well. "A lot of people have cars," Wayne Rose, an associate broker with Century Homes Realty Group, says of the neighborhood. Homeowners who live near Interstate 495 or Interstate 678 may hear cars moving down the highways.

Single-family homes typically sell from the upper $700,000s to around $1.5 million. While there haven’t been many recent townhome sales, the median price is about $1 million.

Things to do at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Kissena Park

Queensboro Hill borders several large parks. Homes on the west and north sides of the neighborhood are closest to these green spaces, but nearly every resident lives within a 15-minute walk. Activities available at these recreation havens include:

  • Kayak a lake, visit the Queens Zoo and check out artwork at the Queens Museum at Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
  • Play a round of golf and cycle the velodrome at Kissena Park.
  • Join games of cricket, handball and soccer at Kissena Corridor Park.
  • Walk among nearly 40 acres of flowers and trees at Queens Botanical Garden.
There’s also plenty for sports fans to do nearby. The New York Mets play at Citi Field, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Cetner hosts the U.S. Open and, in 2027, Etihad Park will welcome New York City FC matches. All three venues are within 3 miles of Queensboro Hill.

Interstate access to Manhattan, airports

Several major highways, including Interstates 495 and 678, run past Queensboro Hill. Drivers can use the highways to commute to Manhattan, a 10-mile drive that can take up to an hour, and to catch flights from LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport, 3 and 7 miles away, respectively. The closest spot to catch the subway or the Long Island Rail Road is Flushing-Willets Point, which is anywhere from a mile to 2 miles from homes in the Queensboro Hill.

Restaurants on Main Street and shopping in Flushing-Willets Point

Main Street is the largest of the neighborhood’s commercial corridors. Doctor offices, corner stores and a pharmacy fill the street’s storefronts. There are plenty of restaurants too; Phil & Sons makes its pizza dough daily and Main Street Imperial Taiwanese serves stir-fried clams and more. The street is also home to Yong Fa Supermarket and NewYork-Presbyterian Queens hospital. The hospital supports thousands of local jobs. "That’s all high demand [because of] the hospital and doctors living there," Rose says of Queensboro Hill.

A mile away in Flushing-Willets Point, there are several shopping and dining areas, including:

  • Chinatown, a collection of eateries with Michelin Guide-worthy Chinese restaurants
  • New World Mall, a retail center with J Mart grocery store and bubble tea shops
  • SkyView Center, a shopping complex with Marshalls, Target and Uniqlo

Highly rated elementary schools

The neighborhood has a pair of highly rated elementary schools: P.S. 163 Flushing Heights and P.S. 120 Queens. Queensboro Hill is also home to The Lowell School, a private school teaching kindergarten through 12th grade. The school features small class sizes, art and music programs and a job development program.
