Saint Albans

Large lots and a historic district
“The beauty of St. Albans is that it has larger-sized lots compared to other areas of Queens,” says Singh. “You have more garages and larger homes, more reasonably priced.” The majority of the homes in the area are single-family properties, thanks to rezoning that discourages housing density. Homes include colonials, Cape Cods and Tudors, many of them three-bedrooms, with prices ranging from $575,000 to $800,000. Colonial Revival and Tudor-style homes in the subdivision of Addisleigh Park, recently designated a historic locale by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, date to the 1930s and list for about $800,000 to $1 million. Distressed properties in St. Albans can be bought for around $500,000. "Home prices in this area can be really far apart, because of location," says Michele Cheng, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty. "It's at the intersection of a bunch of different lifestyles in Queens."Jamaican food, a small theater and a big arena
Jamaican and Caribbean cuisine are staples here, and popular restaurants include Fishnet and The Smokehouse. Korean and Chinese food is also available. John’s Farm Market on Farmers Boulevard sells groceries and Earnest Foods is a locally-owned organic and natural grocery store. Founded in 1970, the Black Spectrum Theatre in Roy Wilkins Park performs socially conscious plays for the community. The UBS Arena in nearby Elmont opened in 2021 and hosts concerts, events and is the home of the New York Islanders. In addition to offering entertainment options, Singh credits the venue with bringing jobs to the area and raising property values.Small group learning and college prep
Roy Wilkins School employs small instructional groups in the classroom and enrolls students from pre-kindergarten to 5th grade. It receives a B-minus rating from Niche. Susan B. Anthony Academy offers strong social-emotional support to students and gets the same Niche rating. Pathways College Preparatory School serves 6th to 12th grade and offers numerous college-level classes. It receives a C rating. Two lively parks and a $92 million upgrade
Archie Spigner Park is a lively community green with athletic fields, playgrounds and a splash pad. Musician’s Oval is an open lawn that pays tribute to the area’s musical history and hosts The St. Albans Jazz and R&B Festival every summer. Entrances to it feature paved constellations with the best date and time to see them in the night sky. The 54-acre Roy Wilkins Park nearby offers numerous sporting fields, ball courts and playgrounds plus a four-acre gardening plot where locals can grow their own produce. The attached recreation center is undergoing a $92 million investment from the city, including the installation of an Olympic-size swimming pool.An LIRR station, and major roads to other boroughs and Long Island
Midtown Manhattan can be reached in about an hour via the Long Island Railroad from the St. Albans station or by car on Interstate 495. To the south, the Belt Parkway provides access to Brooklyn and other parts of Queens. The Cross Island Parkway connects to Queens and the Bronx, and Route 27 extends the length of Long Island. Many homes have private driveways, and parking is plentiful here.
