West Astoria is a Queens neighborhood with quick access to Manhattan
West Astoria’s waterfront parks are in full view of Manhattan's skyscrapers, a sign of how close the Queens neighborhood is to the heart of the city. Subways whisk people to Midtown in less than 15 minutes. Still, you don’t have to leave the neighborhood to experience a city lifestyle. West Astoria, along with neighboring sections of Astoria, offer high-rise living, walkable streets and block after block of restaurants serving cuisine from all over the world.
The local Ferry in West Astoria can get residents to Manhattan in a matter of minutes.

A competitive market of homes and co-ops
Apartments dominate housing in West Astoria, but there are also plenty of homeowners in the neighborhood. Renovated co-ops on the north side fill midcentury high-rises, with some units providing views of the Manhattan skyline. Small single-family homes are more common on the west side of the neighborhood. The market is competitive across Astoria, says Thomas Caramanno, a Realtor with Compass Real Estate who lives in the neighborhood. “The inventory is still quite limited. I had a buyer I’m working with who went to see a house listed a week [earlier]. The listing agent was doing scheduled showings. We got there and were one of about 10 people in line. More were coming when we left.”

Parks along the East River
The waterfront was once an industrial area, but that has changed in the last few years, Caramanno says. “There’s a concerted effort to redevelop the waterfront. There was nothing there, and now you take a walk or drive around, and there’s restaurants and shops. You’re going to see that area grow in the next decade.” The city finished renovating Rainey Park in 2025, outfitting the waterfront green space with a new playground, splash pad and bike racks for those who want to cycle the park’s wide, paved trails. A trail connects Rainey Park to Socrates Sculpture Park, where you can wander among works of art that are frequently swapped out. The park hosts events, from craft workshops to the Halloween Harvest Festival.
Socrates Sculpture park is home to some of the most amazing sculptures in all of New York City.

Bakeries and Costco in West Astoria, with lots of restaurants nearby
The neighborhood has fewer shops and restaurants than other parts of Astoria. Still, cafes, bakeries and pizza shops pepper street corners. Siam Market carries Thai ingredients and snacks, and, along the waterfront, people shop at one of two Costco locations in Queens. A few blocks east, hundreds of restaurants pack into the blocks along Broadway and Steinway Street. Options include:
Thai food on the patio at Pye Boat Noodle
Colombian breakfast at Pollos Mario Astoria
Greek brunch and dinner at Amylos Taverna
Queens offers multiple Costco locations just outside of the West Astoria neighborhood.
OK Cafe serves warm, organic brews in flavors as diverse as the neighborhood.
